Getting prepared...what protein shakes do you like?

Recommended Posts

I went to my nutritionist 2 weeks ago and at that time, still had 16lbs to lose before my surgery. She told me to use Body Fortress. I love the taste of them. I use 1 scoop of the choc. 8oz 2% milk, 1cup ice, and a banana. Blend it all up, very yummy. Also I like to use 1 scoop of the vanilla, 1 cup ice, 8oz milk and 1 cup of pineapple. Taste like a pina coloda. I also mike chia seeds in sometimes. 30g of Protein just in the powder and only 170 cal, 2g sugar. BTW, in two weeks, I lost 11lbs! I have two shakes a day, salad with either chicken or fish for dinner and snacks/fruit twice a day. I only have 5lbs to go before surgery can be scheduled. Good luck! Also, if you go on the website for them and sign up for newsletter, they will give you two coupons for $1.00 off. Then you can also sign up on Facebook and get two more. They also have lots of great recipies

I'm August 9th and I'm also trying to find good shakes. I would love to try the premier shakes since they have so much Protein but can't find them around here. We don't have a costco anywhere in the state and I looked at Amazon and couldn't believe the cost!! Maybe Sam's club? Idk but I'll look into these others. I have heard great things about unjury though.

Ask your nutritionist if she can give you a sample of Unjury. My hospital gift shop carries it, but I've always bought online.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions!

Not sure why, but tonight I started getting sooooo nervous. I guess that's normal...

Trying to be proactive and make sure I have everything I need, especially since the next few weeks will fly by.

Thanks again! :)

Last minute jitters are normal. Once you're at the hospital, they will keep you too busy to think about being nervous.

I get the insopure unflavored powder and make my own, they're SO much better then the premade ones. My favorite 2 are strawberries, peaches, and crystal lite lemonade with the powder (tastes like frozen lemonade) or the powder mixed with milk, lite Hershey's Syrup and ice cubes (tastes like Wendy's frosty)

Have you used the ISO Pure in broth? I want to buy some and freeze 1 oz batches of homemade broth with the Protein added so it is ready for after my surgery.

GNC Lean shake in premixed chocolate is the only one I liked because it's not dairy free. The skim milk goes a long way with taste.

I just picked up some of the Isopure zero carb in the glass bottles at GNC- they're cheaper elsewhere! we have a supplement warehouse- i dont know if you do.. but check around.. they're not delicious.. but they're really low cal (1.5) low carb <5 and have about 40g of protein.. they taste sort of like a propel or powerade… just a little less tastey… hope this helps! also tried muscle milk light- it was good, the chocolate was basically like a yoohoo (but better- i dont even like yoohoo HAHA!)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
