low-cal yogurt

Recommended Posts

When I start Phase II post op , my Doc said smooth low-cal yogurt is fine to eat. What are some smooth low-cal yogurt that you would recommend? There are to many on the shelf for me to try. I also am not quite sure of the amount of fruit in some low -cal yogurts are acceptable?

Low fat Greek yogurts are good, they have a bit more Protein. I don't eat the fruit, it is usually on the bottom of the cup and I leave it. Now that I amp Post op, I add my own blueberries to the yogurt.

My fave is stoneyfield Greek vanilla flavored. The other Greek options are a little tart for me taste. Check the sugar on them tho - it can get high in a hurry.

Greek yogurt is great for after healing. In phase 2, post op, you will need to avoid thick and creamy yogurts. Look for the light yogurts. They are thinner than greek and will go down easier. Once you are on regular food, you can transition to the thicker- thick and creamy and greek.

Do you want high Protein, lower carb (for yogurt), no fat or sugar? Try nonfat plain greek yogurt (Fage or Cobani) with squirts of Mio. The Mio adds the fruity flavoring without any sugar or preservatives.

I just saw a commercial for Oikos Greek Yogurt new product. dips made w the yogurt in French Onion, Roasted Red Pepper, Vegetable and Herb and Dill. Not sure of nutritional content but might be a way to season tuna, chicken, or other mushies if not as a dip w veggies. Has anyone tried them?

What a great idea! I'm trying that next time I have to buy yogurt.

I've tried the French Onion one, it was just okay, I only had about a tablespoon with a few cherry tomatoes, but I may mix it in some tuna...good suggestion!

Just bought two (Mio like) containers of orange and grape Crush.

Thanks

Great! That's the only way I can eat yogurt. And it's healthy for you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
