Very Depressed. Food is winning, I am losing this battle

Recommended Posts

I understand the hunger, I met w my nutritionist and she said when you healing & the inflammation goes away the hunger can kick in, it did for me hard and fast. I think the fill will help but make sure to call/talk to your Dr about this. Don't be so hard on yourself if you did gain, so what? Get back on the ball, look at your food logs with your nutritionist. Mine said to stop relying on the shakes and eat real food, it would help me fill up longer, where the shake is a liquid and won't last as long (didn't occur to me but I feel she is almost as good of a tool as my band is). Your Dr. Has heard & seen it all, they aren't there to judge you but help you. Don't be so hard on yourself. Hang on till you get that fill. Chin up.

I can understand how u feel. i had my lap band surgery March 29th- i am having a hard time myself. i've had 2 fills so far and still no weight loss. i go for my 3rd in two weeks. no-one seems to tell us that this weight loss isn't going to happen for a lot of people right after the surgery... so it's frustrating. you just had your surgery, so don't beat yourself up-- i went thru that and it sucks. honestly, i'm still frustrated but i'm now hoping with my 3rd fill that i'll start 2 see results. Maybe once u get your first couple of fills, you'll "want" to change some old habits. Basically, that's how it worked for me. Just try your best, and don't expect to be perfect. It's guna take time- i feel ure pain, hang in there -

I am right there with all of you. I had my surgery on May 6th. and have been stuck for the last month at the same weight. I am happy it's not going up, and I am working on following all the guidelines. My first fill will be on Monday, so I hope that helps to reduce some of the hunger that I have between meals and reduce the amount that I want to eat during meals.

I have to start putting things on a smaller plate, I think that will help to keep the "extra" out of the way. Sometimes I feel as though I need to eat it because it's on my plate until I realize I'm uncomfortable and shouldn't have eaten those extra spoon/fork fulls.

I want to learn to STOP doing that, just because it tastes good, and I want to keep eating it doesn't mean I should be. That is something I really need to work on. I do feel like I am making better choices of food, but still those days of stress can put me over the edge, and I will admit I have taken that step back into old habits a time or two.

Though having the band reminds me that I have taken a wrong step and I don't get very far on that path to self-destruction for that I am grateful!

As everyone said it is a mind thing too. I said to myself "this surgery is it" for me! I was banded 2/12/13 and I have just had my 2nd fill on 6/27. I have lost 56 lbs so far (16 were from the 2 week pre surgery diet). I really don't feel any restriction but when I eat I stop at the amount that I know I am suppose to have. If I feel hungry I will eat sugarfree Jello or pudding, it helps. I will not have another fill until sept since I am going away in aug for 3 weeks. You have to set your mind to so this. Currently doing over 3 miles in 60 minutes on a treadmill 3 times a week! I am 50

And I want this bad so I work with the band!

I have had several fills and still eat 1200 cal. Now preband' date=' this would have me losing weight, so I should lose slow, but steady shouldn't I? Thoughts?[/quote']

It's all about learning your energy balance and setting limits that achieve the desired result... Trial and error... Which will be different for everyone...

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
