I met with the surgeon about 2 weeks ago. They submitted everything to the insurance and now I'm just waiting to get the approval. Anyone else in the same boat?

I am in the same boat! All documents were submitted to united health care so I'm on day 3 of pre op hoping approval comes quick.

Me! I went to an intake appointment last week. I was hoping to hear back this week. Just anxious I guess. We can make it.

I met with my surgeon the first week of June and am still waiting for the insurance approval. I have united healthcare too. I'm guessing they are ones to drag their feet. I'm going to follow up again on Monday! I'm ready to do this, but can't w/o the ins. approval.

Exactly. I've been told by my patient advocate that UHC is really quick in approvals. Who do I follow up with, the dr or ins company directly? I was tempted to call UHC for a status update but didn't want to compromise the process.

I would check with your doc first. I'm going to follow up with mine tomorrow and go from there.

Are you calling your insurance company. Call them everyday. Speak with your clinical case worker explain you've done your part now your waiting on them.

I do not have United Healthcare. However, just wanted to let you know that it took ten days (8 business days) for my insurance company to send the approval. I did not call. It depends how strong is your case.

Well we heard back after a month yesterday and it was denied because my BMI wad 39.8 instead of 40. My nurse said she has never had an ins deny because of that especially since I also have asthma. She has already appealed it and is supposed to be talking to the medical director at the ins. I am trying to stay positive but am feeling discouraged.

Please don't feel discouraged. That's a game insurance companies play. I have everything wrong with me and it was medically necessary but I was denied the first time and my BMI was 39. It went on appeal and I was approved. Hang in there!

I spoke w dr. Office and there is no word from UHC. She advised that I could call the pre determination dept at UHC and check status without comprising any approvals. I'm just waiting for case manager to approve the clinicals!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
