Hello, I just had my surgery on Friday the 21st. Since yesterday my worst pain is in the incision where I assume the port is. It's fine if I am still, but when I get up or down it burns and stings so bad. Almost feels like the stiches are ripping my skin. I don't notice any blood or swelling, temp goes from normal to low grade (99.3 ish).

Is this how it felt for you?

Thanks.

Yes. It goes away after a couple weeks, but you may feel that "sting" every so often for the next few months. I guess it takes awhile for it to completely heal since the port was stitched to muscle we use every day. :)

Thanks so much for you reply. I just wanted to know it's normal. :)

Everyday I felt better. Pain was less each day and even though uncomfortable the first three days, walking up and down my hall at home helped. I tried to hold my belly because it seemed it hurt when it moved.... Sounds kinda crazy when I write it ...LOL

This is a great forum to read for answers!!!

Hi and congratulations!

I had my surgery in April and yes that is exactly how i felt it gets better... I still have a stinging sensation sometimes and my dr.s office says it's normal. :)

You should be fine! You are healing and it will hurt a little. Your stitch area will probably be a little sore for awhile, maybe even months. The \n, the skin ,might itch. If there is no pussing or extreme redness, it probably is okay. Karen

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
