Since being banded I've stayed clear of eating fruit. Grapes just don't agree with me anymore and you see advice saying stay clear of citrus. I'm ok with blackcurrents.

Can anyone give me some fruity advice??

fruit is hard for me to get through my band because of its consistency. Also, fruit contains tons of sugar and definitely hurts my weight loss. I know that fruit has 'good' sugar or whatever but my body doesn't understand that and still makes me gain weight on it. If I do eat fruit I look at it like a dessert that should be eaten rarely and as a treat. Also, I seem to be able to eat dried fruit easier than regular fruit. Lastly, I'd advise against fruit juice completely because that takes all the Fiber out of the fruit and just leaves the sugar.

I once had a discussion with my doc about fruit sugar and he said, If you were 150lbs then the sugar in fruit would be great for you but since you're not, avoid it and you'll lose more weight. If you are concerned with Vitamins either get it from other sources or take a Multivitamin.

That's just my two cents. Mileage may vary!

Every one seems to be different and every nutrtitionist seems to have a different opinion on this. I choose to eat fruit; one because it is natural and non-processed. I eat fresh fruit only! Fruit has lots of Fiber and Water. The thing is a lot of people add "stuff" to their fruit like sugar, salt, that will increase weight gain. I eat straight fruit/veggies raw with nothing added.

Many times when I eat fruit I will mix it with a Protein for a snack- like apples and Peanut Butter, cucumber sticks and hummas, cheese and grapes.

Thus far as long as I chew well I have had no problems with any type of fruit. Each person has to do what works for them.

I just stay away from the membrain or the outside of the grapes. I also find it a problem to eat them.

I always add fruit (frozen banana or frozen berries) to my Protein shakes...just makes them taste better. And, I always add fruit to my salads...also makes them taste better...I know that for my lifestyle change not having fruit isn't a long term option so I'm keeping them incorporated, but trying to make smarter decisions on how and when I eat it. They are also my main source of carboydrates right now.

I also look at some fruit as a "dessert." Watermelon and mango and frozen grapes especially. YUM.

Of course this may all change in the winter when fresh fruit isn't as plentiful...

I eat fruit all the time (in natural state)....much better than processed snacks/items...just my opinion...seems to work for me.....I see it as nature's candy.< /p>

I eat a lot of melon like watermelon and cantelope , sometimes oranges and app;es if the app;es are peeled and sliced cause they have their own naturuall sugars so that helps a lot cause I still crave sweets so instead of candy, cake or my other vice I quit was my Soda I can do the fruit or melon in place of the soda or candy it helps.

I like organic and raw foods containing more fruits and vegetables.

My two serving of the day contain fresh fruits. First I eat fruits at morning in my Breakfast then I take some fruits after the lunch.< /p>

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
