Date set for June 27th - anybody scheduled for the same week?

Recommended Posts

Hi, My surgery date is June 27th. I was told that I will stay in the hospital one night. After I go home I will be alone and my neighbor will come and check on me daily. Are there any fellow candidates who has their surgery on the same week or so?

I started the pre-op diet 3 days ago. I am getting used to the milk shakes in the morning. They are not so bad, but my pre-op diet is not perfect: unfortuntely I go over the 1000 by ~200 Cals but I hope improve it in a couple of days.

I am worried about the pain during the first 2 days after surgery. How much am I going to be incapacitated??

Thanks!

Hey* I'm also 27th. Tomo we are entering single digit count down! Scared for the hospital and recovery, excited for the results! No pre op diet for me, so I'm enjoying all the nice things for old time sake!

Hi I just found out my date was moved up to June 28. It was initially set got July 1. Which is fine because I'm on day one if the pre op diet and this is not very fun.

I am set for June 27th too! I started the pre-op diet a couple of days early and it is really hard. Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch, a serving of Protein plus 1 cup of green veggies and 1 cup of fruit for dinner. It is a tough diet but I am losing weight so that's good.

I am glad that there are several of us going through this in the same time. I hope we will cheer each other up :)

Congratulations, Joy332!! I was not able to do the 1000 Cal diet exactly as it should be.

Hi! My surgery is June 21st & just like you heather316, I'm worried about the pain of the first 2 days. I think being so close to the big day has made me focus on that more than anything! I'm afraid on the infamous "gas pains" everyone speaks of & how strong it will be. Its normal to have the jitters as the day approaches for all of us. I'm sure we will all make it through just fine! Since mine is a few days prior I will keep you all updated!! Best of luck to you all!!

Hi Marimari,

I am also afraid of the pain and discomfort on the first 2 days but I just keep listening to those people and those posts who told me that the same day they started walking. Somebody even said that 3 days later he already went to a support meeting, which is like wow! he left the house after 3 days?? So, it must be bearable. WIll you have somebody with you in the house to help you?

I just went to buy Gas X strips yesterday in CVS to be prepared for the gas issues..

heather316,

Same here! trying to let all those posts deviate my mind from thought of it being unbearable. I also bought the gas x strips yesterday to be prepared. Yes, luckily I have family to help & my 12 year old son volunteered himself to be my personal assistant! :) I know we will make it through just fine like the rest have but the jitters are inevitable! Will you have help as well? I didn't have to follow a pre op diet so I'm sure the change in eating will hit me hard. lol

Marimari15,

What I would like to suggest that you could try out some of the Protein shakes before the surgery. So that you get little bit used to them and to minimize the number of news things that happens to you. Since Monday, I put vanilla Protein shake into my luke warm coffee (if too hot, it curdles), mix it together and drink it as a cappucino.. I have also tried Advantage (Atkins)-chocolate drink ($4.00/4 bottles n Walmart, 17 g of protein) and it was surprisingly OK. I also started to use a weekly medicine organizer container for my Vitamins, so that it becomes a routine (otherwise I forget it).

Any other suggestion from others how to prepare??

Hey, Heather 316, here are some Protein Shake ideas: If you are mixing them yourself, here is what I like: vanilla whey Protein (I use Jay Robb protein powder--more expensive but not gritty and tastes good) mixed with FF milk, a teaspoon of SF FF cheesecake pudding mix, and a few frozen strawberries. My pre-op diet allows these additions. I have also tried making chocolate shakes with SF FF chocolate pudding mix and ice. I like the frozen fruit or ice because it makes it more like a milkshake.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
