I think we all have shared in those same emotions. You will find as you progress into this, you will discover a few more. I call them LB phases. Don't be surprised that the night before surgery you cry and think, want in the world I'm I getting myself into and maybe I can loose the weight by myself.

Isn't great to know, you're not alone and this is all normal?

As long as you have educated yourself and know what you're getting into, you'll do great.

Have you tried different shakes, see which brand you like best? Got your sf Jello, broth, sf popsicles ready?

Take Chapstick to surgery center with you. After surgery you wake up with really dry lips.

Heating pad? SF flavored drinks?

Pillow for ride home, seatbelt can rub against your incisions.

Best of luck!

all great suggestions.. you will have some down days but you can get though it.. big important thing.. do not get constipated (tmi) but make sure you have milk of mag or something on hand for that.. sip , sip, sip. then move around the house as much as you can.. in between moving, rest... take pain meds if you need them... after about a week you will start to feel normal... take care and good luck...

Congratulations on having the band. I did not find this site until after I got it. I don't know if knowing less was worse or better. I did learn from going to support groups monthly for about 8 months before the surgery and I still go every month. This Thursday a hospital chef is doing a tasting of 3-4 recipes with the dietitian's help. My doctor and dietitian were great with information.

I hear you! The week before my surgery and night before, I was second guessing my decision. It's hard to change. But I did it last Monday and I'm 5 days on liquid diet. I have no regret and feel happier knowing I will feel better about me soon. The gas pains are prob the worst ... But I'm new too so we will see! Good luck. If u have doubts , remind yourself what u led u to this decision

I had surgery 5 days ago and I am not feeling too terrible. Sore, for sure but the gas pains are gone now. I still have pain in my port and area and from what I read/heard, that can continue for weeks while it heals. Walking was a HUGE help for me and of course the liquid lortab. Stay hydrated and starting filling up on Protein once you are allowed to have Protein drinks!

Hi good luck to you. I had surg 6/3/13. I'm in my fourth week. 1st two days were the worst, tired and terrible gas pains in my shoulders/ chest... Started taking care of my baby on 3rd day, I was sore but I did it. Second week back to work, desk work at home. I was emotional 2nd week but I was no longer on my pain meds and got pms bad! So makes sense. Last week I felt pretty normal. I started walking at gym week 2... And it helped a lot. I suck at going to gym but on my 3rd week. I do my 30 min and go. I got 1st fill last week and now that gas is better, I'm hungry. I was down 21lbs in 3rd week! Go ladies! Reading these are so motivating!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
