Motivation and constistency

Recommended Posts

Hi- I feel really stuck and I need help. I don't know how to stay consistently motivated. I've had my band for 2.5 years lost about 80 lbs but always go back to my comfort-food I want to avoid my surgeons appt on Tuesday because IM so ashamed. All I do is yo yo the same 3 lbs for the last year. IM seeing a therapist but honestly there's,not enough time in the session for everything. How can I really stick to this? Please I am really asking for responses. I just quit smoking so that's another demon down and I also pull out my hair(anxiety disorder) so it feels like whack-a mole when one gets, better the other gets, worse. I really want to lose this weight. I have been known to self sabotage IM putting this out there.. Please tell me how I can stay motivated and consistent. Thanks I really appreciate it in advance

Hello,

You are down a lot of weight and that is super. Maybe make a dietitian appointment and or doctor's appointment and get back on track. Have you been weighing/measuring your foods? I know if I don't keep track of my foods, I will over eat senseless calories. Have you been exercising ?

I wish you luck with your stop smoking. I know it is a hard thing to stop (I never smoked) but my husband was 4-6 packs a day, yes you read right.

Good luck and stay in touch with all of us on this wonderful site for support.

Thank you dylanmiles for the response. Lately I have been feeling so blah about healthy food, that junk is the only thing I really want. I know that's wrong. I guess I need to get,a,hobby? Lol

Thank you Steph...I feel like I have screwed up one too many times. I don't know how to fix it and stick with it once and for all. I feel like such a failure. Thank you for the positive words. I really appreciate it.

HOnestly i think 80 pounds is a great accomplishment ... i am only one month banded... as for smoking congrats to you.. its a hard thing to do .. i quit 6 yrs ago but you can do it!! one day at a time.. i even stopped doing jenny craig when i quit bc i wantedt to concentrate on that and i gained all my 60 pounds back and then some.. if only i had the band then!! Please don;t feel like a failure i see a lot of hard work in the pounds lost and not smoking!! you can do it!!!

Thank you Jenni..yes I need more reminders of it being a big accomplishment. It's just that I have another 80-100 to go. The emotional stuff is big and IM so glad I quit smoking.Honestly, I thought id never do that. Maybe now I can focus on lapband.

First thought, your screen name is fabulous! "...you are like a morn in spring...and when irish eyes are smiling sure they'll steal your heart away."

Now lets both of us be stubborn irishmen and win this battle. You have had a lot more success than me, but maybe I am just slow to get going. You stalled.

Do you walk? Wanna have a cyber walking buddy? If we both agree to honestly report to each other, the accountability may help. Or maybe another kind of exercise. Anyway, happy to help, and happy to get help.

May the road rise up to meet you.....and the wind always at your back!

Quitting smoking on top of this journey, wow cud-does to you! When I quit smoking I had to keep myself busy, especially my hands. I did a lot of crafts.

With this journey I found that I was a boredom eater, so again I kept myself busy. When I wanted to eat I got up and did something, walked, sewed, got online, anything other than head for the kitchen.

My best advise would be find some new interests. Something that you have always wanted to do or just wondered about. Try it, you might like it. :)

Can you get more session time with therapist or perhaps switch to a psychiatrist that can prescribe meds? You said you are pulling out your hair. That seems like a high level of anxiety to me. It's so hard to lose weight when there are other things happening in one's life. I always try to remember that it's about being healthy overall not just the weight loss. Best wishes to you in getting back on track.

I have found that you can't eat with wet nail polish. I use top coat every night. I have been doing that off and on for over 20 years.

Also, I am a very fussy eater, weird for a fat person, so I just buy my husband all the crap he wants, that I hate. He loves Lays chips, I hate them. I only like weird fancy gourmet ones. I do have Godiva chocolates in the house and have 2 small squares every day or so. I can't live without dark chocolate. I had a sub sandwich for dinner and didn't eat all the roll but ate the meatballs. Go to the doctor with a smile and say, I need help. I hope I helped you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
