From very little restriction to too tight

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was banded in February and have had a few fills so far, 5cc total in my 10cc band. Last month after my fill I felt a little restriction for a few day but eventually lost it. Yesterday I went for a fill and received .5 fill and now I can hardly keep down Water. Could I become too restricted with this small fill after not feeling anything or is something else going on here?

I called my Doctor and I'm going in tomorrow morning.

Phew!

Thanks Missy, I didn't know it could happen so fast. Well at least I know I'm getting close.

Thanks for your reply.

It definitely can. I only have 5.2 cc in my 10cc band and am very much in the Green Zone- and that is after having .1cc taken out for originally being too tight. And yes, that small .1cc made a huge difference.

Best wishes :)

oh yes for sure! fills are so finicky. personally I've had too many experiences like yours and now I wont get more than .1cc put in at a time to be on the safe side. I'd rather go back ever two weeks and have .1 put in than .5 and have to rush to the ER after hours.....good luck!

Not to mention that a lot of ERs don't have the right kind of non coring huber needles to do an adjustment without damaging your port, and that's if you can find someone who even knows how to do an adjustment.

I've got a 10CC band too. I was at 4CCs without much restriction, and got .6 put in and was in a huge amount of pain and could barely get anything down. They took out .3CCs, and now I seem to be just right at 4.3CCs.

Definitely get some Fluid out. It isn't worth the misery!

Well, I had a fill today post op after my port had flipped and I had corrective surgery on May 10th. I went for a follow up today. I gained two pounds! The doctor took one look at me and he said I had a Fluid build up. He drained almost 16 oz of fluid out of me!

Anyway, he said he gave me a fill during my surgery and I said I felt nothing, he decided to give me another fill today. Anyway, I was only able to hold down 1 Cup of food before I felt like I would start regurgitating. It was a good feel, not a restrictive feel but enough to let me know I'd had enough.

My doctor is very conservative on fills and this time I think he hit the green zone because I'm comfortable and feel good that I can stop eating when I feel full. Before the band I would have eaten everything on my plate.

Hopefully, a loss will show up on the scale. The doctor said that the fluid build up post op was a contributing factor in my weight gain of two pounds.

A gain is a gain so I have to log that down and remind. Myself not to get discouraged.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your sound responses. I went to the doctor this morning and he took out .25cc out of my band. Wow, what a difference. Although I'm not uncomfortable, I definitely feel restriction when I eat. Another lesson learned as a new bander :)

Oh I forgot to add that during this little hiccup, I lost 6lbs/2 days. We 'll have to see what happens when I rehydrate.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
