New pre-surgery and having a hard time with practice diet

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new and in need of some encourgement. I have my surgery scheduled for my birthday, June 18th. I am having a hard time with the practice diet and not working out like I should. I need some encourgement as I have my next doctor appointment June 3rd and afraid if I don't lose a little they may not let me have the surgery. I just need some encourgement and a push. Can sometell tell me how they got started and give me some tips.

Thanks, Robin

I never heard of a practice diet? Some of us had a pre-op diet that had to be adhered to but I'm not familiar with a practice diet? Can you explain?

BTW-30 days after being banded, there is no diet that we all follow.

you just (start). as TMF said, no diet needed.

eat better foods (non processed is best, eat fresh veggies/fruit and lean proteins) leave fast food where it belongs.....and drink alot ......and exercise...you just do it....that is what i did..i either wanted to lose weight or not this time......i failed horribly in my past (dieting) and always gained it back by eating the wrong types of food and in huge amounts.....it boiled down for me to want power.....did i want to lose weight bad enough to stop making excuses and do what i had to do.....i guess we all got to decide that for ourselves.

all the best.

Practice is just that, practice. You keep doing something till you've done it enough it become second nature. You usually don't get it right the first time, and you won't get it right all the time, but you keep trying. If they are having you do a "practice diet" it sounds to me like they just want you to have ahead start when it comes time to actually have to do it. Eating smaller portions, chew, chew, chew, not drinking while you eating, etc. So if your not getting it right at first that's to be expected but you'll be much better off by the time it gets here. Maybe less or no stuck episodes or maybe not struggling with eating right, stuff like that, does that make sense? Anyway just a thought good luck and you'll get it just don't give up.

Thanks, Well,I am on the pre-op diet now and doing okay. It seems each day gets easier. I haven't been excercisng much and hope to get better at that this week. My surgery date is June 18th which also happens to be my birthday, what better gift to myself...Robin

One foot in front of the other...you just do it. Think of how you'll feel with 50-80% of your excess weight gone. You'll move easier, be a participant in life, not an observer; your joints won't hurt so much. Head hunger is a big deal. Gotta keep that beast at bay. Have a plan, go for a walk, brush your teeth, etc to distract your mind.

Good luck!!!

Every single person that gets a band struggles with diets, it's why we need the band.:) The band will help with your physical hunger, and you won't feel like your dieting all the time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
