Anyone else have hiccups?

Recommended Posts

Hi!! I am 7 days post op and only drinking Protein Shakes and Water. After I drink my Protein shakes I get the hiccups, they only last 15 secs or so, but it just seems weird. Anyone else having this?

I get hiccups quite a bit more than i ever did before the band...and I'm almost six weeks out.

I've figured out that mine happen when i haven't eaten in a long time (4-6 hours) or when I've hit the full spot with my band.

You will hear people talk about their soft stop--the indicator that they have eaten enough. My friend says that she gets a "sigh", or a pain in get shoulder (she's five years out). Mine is hiccups. My goal its to not eat so much to trigger them. And when i do, its time to stop eating.

Yes, I sometimes hiccup when I've hit my soft stop. Or I'll sigh. Then I know its time to stop eating.

Almost three years post banding and I still get hiccups. Yes, they are my "soft stop" signal. If I keep eating after the hiccups, it's usually not good news.

You just need to learn to listen to your body. You may be drinking the Protein Shake too quickly. Slow down and take smaller sips and if you start to hiccup, don't take it as a challenge, stop drinking !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
