I am one week post op today. I am having a lot of like burps that don't actually come out, they just really hurt my chest and shoulder. These happen all day long, with or without eating and drinking. I am having a lot of shoulder pain and also am quite nauseated still and have a hard time eating. I am scheduled for a barium swallow tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone else had these issues? Overall I am feeling quite terrible.

I feel your pain.

It gets better. I am about 22 days post op, and I am feeling soooo much better! I had a pain right under the sternum that was quite painful. I found out it was a lot of mucus in my lungs. I have consistently taken musinex since we figured it out, the antibiotics had too many unpleasant side effects,. Happy to report, it was not a band issue.

Give yourself time. It gets better.

who ordered the swallow? this is normal from the air they place in your stomach as they put in the band and only the surgen would know for sure. Gas x, stool softener, laxative and heating pad all help us get past the first couple of weeks. Stick with drinking only sip all day along and please call the doctor who put the band in before doing anything else.

walk, walk, walk. Its the best thing to past that gas.

Heating pad does help a little, but nothing better than walking.

So it is common to feel nauseated all the time still? I can deal with the shoulder and chest pain but I just feel sick to my stomach non-stop. My surgeon is who ordered the swallow.

I did not feel nauseous. Did you feel that way immediately after surgery?

I got nauseous 2 days later and had a dry heaving episode that lasted a couple hours. I have not had that since but have been nauseous. They had me quit the pain meds to see if that helped but it didn't. I just don't want to do this swallow if it isn't necessary and I need to just suck it up!

I never really had bad nausea, but it is common. Every time I go into the doctor's office for a check, they ask that question.

I did find that the thought of another Protein shake made me ill. I got to the point where I didn't want to eat, period. I was already so close to my next mushy phase, so I had some relief there. Although nausea is common, you should still call your doctor's office. They can best tell you whether what you're experiencing is normal, or not. I hope this passes for you sooner than later.......

My doc told me not to expect the desire to eat for two to three days, and if I did, only Clear Liquids. I left a box of broth in the fridge, and when I did want something, I had a few teaspoons of it, lots of Water 24 hours, and a fruit punch Protein Drink, mixed into a water bottle, to sip on. It takes time for your body to progress to the Protein Shakes. Then to puréed, then mushies, then real food. I promise, you won't starve to death that quick! :)

I am so sorry you are having a rough start. One thing I know, if something does not work for you, (human or animal) go back a few steps, start where you were successful, then build on it. One step, one hour, one day at a time.

I believe that the swallow test is standard procedure after surgery. I had one before I left the hospital. They do it to make sure that Fluid is going through, and that there aren't any leaks. Did you have one at the hospital, or is this the first one?

No, I haven't had one yet. I am only having one because I called them with the above complaints.

My pain meds did cause nausea.

Did you get any kind of fill, during surgery?

No fill. He was actually concerned it would be too loose to last me the 6 weeks until my first fill.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
