what should I eat the day of my first fill?

Recommended Posts

I'm going for my first fill on Wednesday, I'm very excited because I'm getting hungrier every day now! I know I should do liquids day 1 then mushies the second day. My appointment is at 3pm, what should I eat that day, liquids? And what time should I eat lunch that day? I usually have a shake or smoothie for Breakfast and some kind of fish with crackers or Tomato salad for lunch.

My surgeon recommends no solid food after 4 hours prior to a fill, but encourages liquids up to an hour before. However, I have eaten solids up to 2 hours prior, because I was not expecting the fill that day, and did not have any problems. Since then though, I don't take any chances on recheck days and stop eating 4 hours before my appointment. His office is an hour away, so I usually drink a Protein Drink as I am getting on the road and have one in the car for the trip home.

Agree with above. After fill liquids for 24 hours, then mushies for a day and then back to your regular stuff.

My nurse just said to eat light. So I agree with the other posts.

I just got my appointment through for a possible fill and the nurse says no solids 4 hours prior the appt and no liquids one hour before!

Hope this helps

I would ask your doctor as each Dr is different, my doctor told me it didn't make a difference what I ate, as long as it's been about 1 hour between food and fill.

Same here....I never gave it a thought what I ate BEFORE a fill...other than I always made sure I did eat good because I know it will be limited AFTER I get a fill.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
