Types of excersizes 6 days post op?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I had my surgery done April 12 and after all those pressure pains I'm finally starting to feel better. I want to start exercising but I don't know what I'm allowed to do and what I'm not allowed to do. I've already lost 16lbs with the liquid diet and it's been really tough not being able to eat what I want. I want to work out my frustrations of not being able to eat by going to the gym. But I don't want to over do something and harm myself. Also, does anyone get lightheaded? Lately I've been getting light headed. I haven't been taking my Protein Shakes. I'm getting sick of them like nauseous sick because of the sweetness. Anyone else like this too?

I think you should be taking it easy for a couple of days, especially steering clear of abdominal crunches.

Ask your doctor, but personally I'd wait it out.

I know it's tough but just think of all the weight you just lost!

Jazz, I have been trying to just walk as much as I feel up to throughout the day, this way I'm building my strength and stamina. Not sure what brand Protein your using but Premier Protein shakes are good and not too sweet. Are you getting enough Water?

Your Protein shakes are crucial for healing right now. Either stomach the ones you have or get new ones but you have to have something.

Talk to your doctor about exercise, most won't let you do much beyond walking for the first 4 weeks.

Yes, I have been drinking lots of Water and keep myself hydrated throughout the day. I guess I'll just start out walking until I can start doing squats and stairs later on. Protein wise I've been drinking beef broth, but I'll suck it up and go back to my shakes because I know that's very important right now :/

There are flavor less Protein mixes or some Bariatric products that have added Protein in the form of Soups etc. You could try those if you do not like the sweet ones. I do not believe that regular broth has sufficient amount of protein unless you are using a fortified version, do read the label. The one I was using on my clear liquid days only had 5 calories in 8 oz servings and 1gram protein.

I was banded on March 11 and all they allowed me to do was walk either outside or on the treadmill for 4 weeks and as soon as my incisions healed I could start swimming laps (I started 3wks after surgery). I didn't like just walking so to compromise because they told me not to lift more than 10lbs for 4wks also, I just raised the incline on the treadmill. You need to make sure your getting enough Protein so your stomach can heal. For my Protein Shakes I use a 6 oz containeer of Fat Free greek yogurt (any flavor), a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder, packet of no sugar added chocolate or vanilla carnations instant Breakfast, 1/3 cup of skim milk, and 1/4 cup of OJ and combine it in the blender. It doesn't taste to bad and has about 30 grams of protein in it. This is what I have for breakfast every morning and it seems to be enough.

I am about 2 1/2 months post op and get light headed a lot when working out. Not really sure why. I have upped my calorie intake some and I think that has helped a little.

As for Protein shakes I have found that the pre-mixed ones, although more expensive, are much better and way easier. Walmart has one called Pure Protein that is by far my favorite!

My advice is to casually walk for now. Your doctor is the only one who can give you the ok to do anything else. Best of luck!

At this stage just light walking anything else could cause pain.

I was told to walk, walk, walk. You don't want to do something and have your port flip on you. I was told no lifting either because you want the muscles to heal around the port. As for the shakes, I don't really have an answer. I have mine with Silk Light Soy (8 ozs), one scoop of Protein Shake and two small scoops of no sugar added ice cream. It's my sweet treat now that I can't have milk shakes from Braums. :D

Thank you everyone!! I went and saw my surgeon and he told me to just walk for now esp. since one of my incisions got infected :/ I started to take ensure with 13G of Protein but I think the calories are too much. I'm going to try the low fat Greek yogurt with the Protein powder, skim milk and fat free carnations with OJ that someone said :) Hopefully that will taste a lot better!! -THANK YOU!!

I have another question (sorry for asking so much!) I've been getting really thirsty from the hot weather and I want to chug Water. I'm afraid because I was told small sips but I don't feel like it's enough and it's REALLY hot. What can I do? Just suck it up and continue with the sips or is it okay to drink Water normally?

Jazzmattzz , i was banned in the same day as you. Shi far i have just been doing a lot of walking. However, at my doctors appointment he said i could start to use my elliptical if i wanted too.

To help with the hunger i have been using low fat Greek yogurt with my shakes. Also warmed up chicken broth seems to really satisfy. Also prosource sells a Jello that has 20 grams of Protein ib it

In regards to the Water drinking, I have always been kind of a chugger in drinking water and am still able to drink water "normally". I think it kind of depends on you and what you can handle. I just started off slowly and then just started drinking it kind of like I used too and I'm only a little over 4 weeks post-op.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
