I was banded 3/21 and have been doing really well. Went back to work Monday and mostly feel good. I have no appetite though. I have to force myself to drink even a little broth. I'm drinking Water. I know I'm healing and that is part of the process, but its been almost a week since surgery and I can't say I've eaten much. I'm functioning ok except I'm pretty much physically drained by 6 or so in the evening. That is getting up at 4:45am for work.

My post op appt is next week, but I was curious if anyone else experienced very little consumption during the first week or two? My husband says he's amazed I'm still walking with as little as I've had to eat this week. Guess this is the new normal?!?!?

Thanks!

Consider yourself lucky. I was literally starving the first couple week after surgery - even at day #2. Thought I'd never make it on so little calories.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. By week 4 tho, if you haven't gotten back any appetite whatsoever, I would talk to my dr. The band isn't there to keep you from getting hungry, it's there to keep you from eating too much.

Good luck!

Marci

This would be me, I actually started counting calories to force myself to get enough nutrition so that my body wouldn't shut down. Believe me you will look back on these days with fondness :D

as you heal, the appetite will return. marci is correct, the band wont stop you from being hungry...so Protein is vital. it will (feed you) and keep you full. and you are still tired and esp in evenings as you are still fresh from major surgery sweetheart. bless your heart :)

just keep drinking, getting your nourishment from what is on your allowed list.

I was the same way. Banded 2/21, only now is my appeitie coming back. One thing that helped me, oddly enough, was eating regularly. I could easily go with having one shake for Breakfast and that would be it. I have recently made a concerted effort to have three meals a day. Always a shake for breakfast, something to chew for lunch, then dinner is one or the other, depending on my appetite. Still hovering around 7-900 calories a day. NUT wanted me at 1-1200... I cannot get there. Not yet anyway.

I was never hungry but got all my Protein in the first 3 weeks. As others have said... consider this your honeymoon. It will not last forever!

I was starving from about day 4 on. You are lucky.

But, a tiny bit of food would fill me up. So, it was no big deal.

So you all were right, my appetite has returned. I feel like my stomach is trying to twist every time it growls. My issue now is absolutely nothing tastes palatable. broth has been my go to food for the last week and now I feel sick after a sip or two. I have tried so many different Protein shakes, Protein powder and drink supplements in hopes to get something else on the menu. I'm suppose to move to mushies Thursday. I am so ready!!

I've heard several say scrambled eggs were a big part of mushies. What else did y'all eat in this phase???

Thanks for letting me vent :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
