Any mushy/soft food ideas?

Recommended Posts

I am one week post op today. Whoop whoop. The doctor just released me for soft foods. They said I could have mashed potatoes, tuna fish, over cooked Pasta, eggs, etc. Even canned meat, as long as its soft. Does anyone have any ideas or recipes they used for this stage? I have been doing good, had a baked sweet potato for lunch, it was yummy!! But I would like more ideas for the next week!

  • My doctor said I could have cottage cheese. IDK about the tomatoes. During my 1st week post-op, they said to blend the cottage cheese, but to me that sounded nasty. I did have some just now, took small bites and chewed really good. Hope you can have some soon.

I was banded two weeks before turkey day and I was cleared for stage 2 (mushy foods) about 2-3 days before and I enjoyed a smidgen of everything it took me like an hour because I sat there and cheer everything until it was mush!!!!! If you look up Emily bites she has some really great food ideas on there and they are portioned smaller for people on weight watchers or those who had Bariatric surgery..... I hope this helps!!!! Good luck with your journey!!!! :-D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
