I'm super constipated from my pain meds! The worst ever....shaking from pain, almost passing out, etc. any ideas for natural relief? I'm trying to weigh if taking my pain meds are worth it at this point? This Constipation is my only pain and its more painful than anything that had to do with surgery. :( Any advice would be helpful.

I am so sorry that you are so uncomfortable! The best remedies that I know of are diarrhetic tea and Soups that have a higher sodium content. Salt Water is not all that wonderful but will also help.

I hope that some of this helps and that you feel relief some time soon. -_-

Stool softener asap, my nurse call me the day after surgery and she stressed taking stool softeners as that could lead to a whole world of problems...........very common with painkillers and surgeries. You should probably also be getting off those pain meds....10 days post op!

Magnesium citrate. It's in a clear glass bottle by the stool softeners. It tastes like yucky sprite. Lol, but it will clear you out. Then I suggest a daily stool softener like colace. If you are this constipated stool softeners will not help you. If you can find the magnesium citrate just ask the pharmacist and follow directions on the bottle

That is one of the reasons I never take pain medication! I know that it's not proper, but when I have this problem and nothing seems to work I shake up a regular coke or pepsi so it doesn't have any carbonation and drink it. It seems to work faster and better than anything else. I use it as my last resort but it never fails me. This is just a suggestion, I know most people won't agree with it, but I'm just throwing it out there! I hope you feel better soon!

You can try Lax-a-day which is a flavorless powder you can mix in Water, juice, coffee, or tea, I had to use that for my son when he was severely constipated. Drinking warm liquids should help as well. I hope you get this problem under control soon, as I know it is the worst feeling ever!!

Since you are stuck at home, do you have any prune juice? This might help you.

I have to agree with Ali above, I am 9 mos post op but was in your condition 7 days post op and was vomiting and in so much pain from consitpation. My surgeon suggested everything from warm prune juice, teas, laxatives, stool softeners, suppositories, finally my went and bought a bottle of Magnesium Citrate, its yucky but it cleaned me out, I of course didn't drink the entire bottle. Hope you feel better soon. After this episode, take a daily dose of stool softener and laxative like Senna S to keep you regular. We are so used to eating gobs of food and high fatty foods and we all of the sudden change our diet that it messes with our colon.

Yeah, paid medications can slow your digestive system to a crawl or complete halt. I didn't take any after surgery and relied on ibuprofen.

It's going to take about 24 hours to get the medication to exit your body. I prefer dulcolax myself.

Laurigee is right caffeine helps, coffee or a flat Coke might move you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
