An't it funny.... How things work out.

Recommended Posts

So i was just reading and responding to another post asking about how long were you out from work. It made me think about my journey and how things work out.

I had worked at my job for 10 years mostly doing Purchasing and acct. Payable At 7 years in, a manger from another dept. recruited me in to the Insurance dept. So for those last 3 i did casualty claims, workers comp, medical insurance... etc. I like the job, but didn't love it.

In my process of going to doctors and having all the test done, i got approved on the first letter sent to UHC. I was so Excited to start my new life.

October 30th i started my two week liquid diet. On November the 5th we left on a vacation to the Tennessee on the Harley. Yes i was on vacation and doing a liquid diet... and yes it was hard as hell and yes it was cold on the bike...lol. Unannounced to me that Friday the 6th they had a Lay off at work and I was to be one of them. But because i was on vacation, mine was postponed till i was scheduled back which was the 16th. So I had LB surgery on the 10th of November and lost my job on the 16th.

Point to the story: If i had not taking that vacation at that time, i would have lost my job on the Friday before my Lb surgery, would have lost my insurance and would not have had my surgery... and probably would still be FAT if not Fatter.

But fate was on my side and i did have my surgery and i did lose the weight and i am soooo happy with where i am now.

An't it Funny how things work out...

Yea, I had mine in January and our company was in the process of being acquired, with accompanying lay offs. When we decided to take the 11K out of our savings buffer, I wondered if I was doing the right thing, but figured if I did get laid off, it would be easier to get a job if I was thinner. Hope your job outlook improves.

Hope you were able to keep your job...

As it would happen, my friend was looking for someone to help her clean houses. She had had LB surgery two years before. So i started helping her and what a blessing because the constant moving jump started my weight loss even more. I did get the job i have now 9 months later. I really was not looking, but unemployment sent me on the interview and i had to take the job even though it paid $5 less than what i was making at my last job. But i will stay here for the time being. It will be three years in Aug....

Yup, I survived the first round of lay offs and it is looking promising, but you can never tell. Now we are dealing with the sequestration, my wife works for the Feds and will be taking a 20% furlough for the next 6 months. Alas, God has been good to us and you take the bad with the good.

It's all divine timing sometimes. I feel like I wouldn't have been ready to make this lifestyle change any sooner or any later. I was ready when I did it...more than ready. And the Universe conspired to make that happen. All financial and insurance ducks in a row.

I put alot of thought into the money I did have to come up with for the surgery (is it worth it....could I put the money away for the kids....you know...always putting my needs last). I am soo glad I put myself first this time. The value of me being healthier and possibly living longer for these kids......well I can't put a value on it!

Boy this is close to home. It took me three times with the insurance company to get approved. The doctor had me set for surgery in June of last year but my insurance was going to change at the end of May. Panic set in that I was going to have to start all over again. I talked to my doctor and he got things changed around and set my surgery for the 24th of May. So happy it also worked out for you. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
