I feel like I am starting over

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I had my surgery 8-4-11. After the surgery I did great. I was eating good, I got into a bootcamp class and exercised 4 times a week. I had a goal to be in a size 10 by our vacation 6-2012. I did not hit tha tgoal. I was a size 12. I started at 215 and got down to 170. And then I hit a wall. I plateaued. I worked really hard and could not loose another pound. I think that is what started my backward spin. Since then, I cant get myself to exercise on a regular basis. I am not eating right. And I frankly have lost the "want to".

About 3 mts ago, I decided that I needed to get a new DR. I refuse to go back to the dr that did my surgery. He is a self-centered a**. So I went to the Ft Worth Lap Band. I went in to get an adjustment, since it had been about 8 mts. Everyone there seemed nice. I got a fill and about 5 days later I realixzed i was too tight. I could not eat anything, I could not sleep without choaking, etc. I was miserable. So I want back the last week in Jan to have some taken out. Now I can eat anything. I dont think I am tight enough. I am scared to get another fill, but at the same time I know I need it. I also dont want to have to pay the $150.00 again.

After the fill, We set up an apt with the nutritionalist. I think she was about 18 and was not relatable at all. She did not tell me anything that I did not already know. "do this...dont do this..." If I could do that , I would not have to have the surgery!!!

I just feel that I am all by myself. My husband still wears the same size he wore in HS and my son is the same. I want to start over, but I feel that I have no support system and no one to do this with. Dont get me wrong, my family is all for me getting healthy and loosing more weight, they just dont understand how hard it is. I dont want to sound excuse driven. I'm not that kind of person. I am a retail manager and I spend ALL day coaching people and telling them "you can do it!!". Its just so hard to turn that energy around to myself.

So here I am, back up to 190 and I really want to start over. I have 25 lbs to loose. I REALLY want to do this, just fell so alone.

Thanks for listening

Oh my God, this could have been written by me!!!!! I feel the same way. I had my surgery 10/2009 and my weight is slowly creeping back - I say slowly but honestly I feel like it did overnight. I still get my adjustments every few months but the last year I kinda lost all my willpower and started eating things I havent touched in 2 years. Now I will be happy to go back to where I left off at 168..........now I am 30 pounds heavier (but still 75 pounds lighter pre-surgery) maybe together, we can do this!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!

I totally understand. Similar here. I started at 320. I lost about fifty. Was doing great. And than, well, life happens. I got hit with alot of family drama. ALOT! So diet and food and weight were all put on the back burner. I gained weight. I was eating Wendy's again. Justifying to myself that I needed a hamburger with my bacon and cheese potato. I was definitely going down hill. I decided I needed to start over. The day after Christmas I went into the doctor. I was kindly reprimanded. LOL. They asked me what was wrong, I told them all the drama. They said they were shocked I didnt gain back more. So I started over and am now down 20. I had a fill problem, they didn't unfill, I was the problem. I never watched bite size. I do now!!!!lol.

The bottom line is, if I could start over and do it, You definitely can. I am like the worst with will power. LOL. We can do this.

I know how difficult life journey can be. I was banded in 2007 so it has been awhile.

I too have gained weight and gained back around 40 lbs to 250 but currently am back to 230, For a few seconds I did flirt with being under 200 but I was to tight and lost weight because I could not hold anything down not to healthy.

I know that without my band I would still be over 330 pounds with diabities and sleep apnea.

I still appreciate my band because I am at a proper fill and it is up to me not to overdue all those comfort foods.

In any case I went away from this board where my support came from. Hopefully I will not make that mistake again.

I certainly cannot Dx over the web, but I know many people who have gone through this.....not saying this is you,

just some general info....

It is a FINE LINE between being too tight and not eating properly to get along with the band....many people complain about eating too much, get a fill but do not modify their

eating behavior, get stuck, go back and get a un-fill, and find themselves back where they started.....

If I had any way to see what I eat during a normal 24 hr period BEFORE I had this surgery...I would not believe it to be possible.....but over 6 months, one fill at a time, behavior changes all the way (sometimes the hard way) I did get there...

THAT was probably the hardest thing about this WLS...that learning curve, Bandster Hell, Bandster Bootcamp......whatever you call it....after that...easy-peasy....all coasting from then on.....but getting there....another story.

I know a person who after her 3-4th fill...every fill after that, she gets an un-fill...11 TIMES! All she needs to do is stop trying to eat the way she did when she was living the fat life....can't do it!

The first thing I did to get back on track was to get a copy of my doctors guidelines. Then I started following them. I started measuring and tracking everything. I also went to a nutritionist that works with my and doctor and took about a weeks worth of days with me. It is not easy but how you succeed and what you get is totally up to you. You dd great so you obviously know how to work with the band. Do you have any notes or trackng that you did when you were successful. It comes down to what I hear on this site a lot. You have to have want power and you have to do this for you and motivate yourself. Best of luck to you!

Do you attend a support group? I go at least 2x a month and weekly when I am struggling. Even though the topics are not always just what I need or some of the people get on my nerves, it keeps me focused on this journey and what I need to do. You said FT Worth.....FW Lapband has weekly support groups on Tuesday at 6:00. Also Medical Plaza Hospital in FW has monthly groups....chck website.

There is much support available to you if you just reach out. Good luck!

I would like that, however, I work 6 days a week and have a disabled mom that I help take care of. Extra time is hard to find. I also attend AA meetings. I have been sober for 10 yrs and those meeting are more important to me. I will get back on track. This week has been good,.

I was banded June 5, 2007. Went from 341 down to 220. Played with 220-230 for 4 yrs. Last yr was having heartburn, acid reflux, slimming all the time, so went in and got several cc taken out. I did not go back and the weight came back quickly. I went back this past tuesday at 271.5. Went back to liquids for 2 days, then soft foods. As of this am I was at 263.5. I will admit I want to be thin, I want this and that, but I cannot make my mind follow my heart. I go back 2nd wk of April to have my band tweeked again. Hoping it works this time. No excuse for my weight gain except I went right back to eating the way I use to. Hard to believe I gained almost 50 lbs in 1 yr. Oh well all I can do is try. I was ill as a hornet today because it was raining, cold, grandkids were here; everyone was eating all the things I wanted, but I didn't and it just put me in a bad mood. But it is 10 pm and I did not eat the junk food I have been eating.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
