2013 lap band patient

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I started out at 276lbs and I got my lap band Feb 21 2013. I did great the first 2 days post op because I had no pain, no appetite and I was losing weight. 6 days post op my appetite started coming back, cravings for sweets and I had my first appt/checkup. I lost total of 15 pounds going down to 262 but now I am going back up, currently 267 and I crave for food, I eat almost anything, and I have no discipline. I vomit once already cause the food would not go down after a couple bites. Everytime I eat dinner I get a stuck feeling and I have to stop and let it work its way down and then continue. I need some help and suggestions. Did my band slip already or is this normal??

Hi there, I am not sure about whether you have had a slip or not, but I got banded on the same day as you and I am still on pureed foods, so I haven't been able to eat yet. Are you following your post-op diet? I agree this is torture and what the veterans refer to as "bandster hell" because my appetite has come back with a vengeance and I want to eat everything is sight!! Luckily I have a touch of OCD and am a rule follower and am sticking to my post-op plan for fear of popping my stitches and causing problems with my band. I would suggest getting in touch with the support team where you got your band and speak to the Dr or dietitian and get checked out!

Ok I don't feel bad knowing that my appetite coming back is normal. I was on tea up until Monday and now I have been snacking, a very bad habit of mine. My doc, did give me a diet plan but it's hard to follow because he wants me to stop snacking and eat Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing in between. All my meals is suppose to have Protein, no calorie drinks, and no starch, just meat and vegetables. I will try those support groups and come Monday I will call.

what are u snacking on?

i think now is a time that u "have it out" with yourself'!

its hard the first couple of months because our bands have not been adjusted yet and our diets are based on will power.

I have definitely noticed.. that if i eat my 3 meals a day at my allowed portion.. im not as hunger as i thought i would be..

in between my nutritionist said to have a Protein shake to feel full if i still felt hungry.

Dani I think you are right. I do need to have it out with myself and that's just what I been doing starting today fighting back eating junk. My day usually consist of no breakfast, gram crackers at lunch, Cereal when I get home and dinner is fairly good, meat, side and vegetable. Then maybe Cookies or cake before bed. I have to break that snacking and try to input meals so I won't be craving sweets.

you sound like me!!! up until a week ago... i havent eaten breakfast (cept when i was pregnant) for about 10 years :x... I would always skip to lunch.. BIG MISTAKE!

Try to start eating breakfast.. even if its just a 1/2 cup to a cup of dry cereal (kashi go lean is a good one).

Definitely eat a bigger lunch.. try to get in your 3 oz. of Protein ... Protein really does help you get fuller... getting our diet steady throughout the day really helps kill that hunger at night. If you need to snack.. try to change some of the unhealthy things in you diet to healthier choices.. sweet tooths.. try sugar free Jello or pudding... im a chip eater so i got some low sodium veggie chips. There are also a ton of low cal low fat recipes that incorperate Protein powder that taste sooo good!

Try to use sites like myfitnesspal or LiveStrong - MyPlate to count your calories and fats and such. Plus seeing what we eat in numeric form helps! lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
