When your nutritionist says to watch carbs is that total carbohydrates or net carbohydrates?

Thanks Mis! My NUT told me no bread, Pasta, rice, or Beans. What would you assume? I'm going to email my nutritionist though.

Now is she talking initially? Aren't you just a few weeks post op?

Yes I a little over 3 weeks post op. I even saw on my next phase no bread, Pasta, rice, or Beans either. I feel they're being super strict though.

Perhaps that changes once you're a little further past surgery?

If not, can you realistically stick a diet like that long term?

Yea I thought I remember you were. I can see them wanting to limit carbs because they can cause increased insulin surges and take the place of needed Protein but they can be eaten in moderation like most things. The band just helps curb the amount but nothing I can get down is off limits so long as I add it in my total cals. I do focus on protein first however to keep fuller longer. I totally do not understand Beans though. That's one of the foods that does work for me that is high in protein and as you said Fiber.< /p>

Exactly... I don't get it. Plus I'm still super constipated and I think Beans would help with that. Lol

Get you some Miralax. I have to use it a lot. Mixes with any liquid or food and you cannot taste it. Will soften stool nicely and not give you bowel cramps. It's what I tell my elderly patients to take. Expensive but great. Get the generic brand.

I hope it's net carbs, low regular carbs would be really hard I would think. At first getting my numbers to hit a max of 60 carbs a day was difficult even with using net carbs, but I have learned a lot and make it work pretty easily now. If you do end up doing net carbs, Fiber One original is pretty good, it's high in carbs, but when you deduct out the high fiber count (I believe it's 14 for 1 serving of 1/2 cup), it knocks down the carb count really well. I have it a few times a week and it helps with regularity. I like the taste and put it in yogurt for Breakfast, or just eat it alone, but it can be a little dry.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
