Just Banded on 2/25/13

Recommended Posts

It's hard to believe, I've done it. There were moments of panic in the last couple weeks, but I wasn't giving up. Now, getting through the recovery period. Last night was rough but today is better.

Thank you Mandy. I feel so much better this evening than I did at this time yesterday. My back pain is almost completely gone. My stomach is a little noisy but I don't have any discomfort there. I'm looking forward to going off Clear Liquids tomorrow. This is so exciting.

Congratulations Heidi. From what I understand it is normal to have some back pain. If you are able to pass gas, it should start getting better. Walking will help. It takes a few days to get things moving again.

Let me know how you're doing in the next day or so. Good luck.

Bonnie

I just got banded this morning and thought I was going to be one of the lucky few with no shoulder or back pain since my post surgery was going so well but a few hours after getting home I was taking the pain meds not because of stomach pain but because the stomach pain made the shoulder pain so bad.

I also had my surgery on 2/25:) I have been home for 2+ days and I'm just starting to feel like myself. If I could just get rid if my shoulder and chest pain, I'd be good. My stomach is making all kinds of crazy noises, but I assume its because I started full liquids today. Yay for us starting this journey:)!

Congrats on the banding. I'm finding when I get tired my back starts to ache.

Take your pain meds tonight so that you get good rest. The first night can be tough, but it will get better.

Grateful mama, congratulations. I started Protein shakes this morning. They could be worse. My stomach has been doing some growling but I'm ignoring it. I haven't felt hungry with all the liquids I've been drinking.

I was trying to avoid taking pain meds but decided that if I hurt, it makes no sense to suffer through it. The back pain can't last too much longer.

Let me know how you're doing, when you get a chance.

Bonnie

I had a couple of shakes- The coffee flavored one I made with milk was the best. And I also ate a light yogurt. I feel way more satisfied today than with just clear liquids. It's neat that we started on the same day- it will be fun to check in with each others progress.

As far as meds- I say take them if you're hurting. I have only been taking them 3 times a day,but that's still way less than the 2 percocets every 4 hours they were pushing at the hospital.

How did you make the coffee shake? I just have vanilla and chocolate so far.

I've been taking Hydrocodone-Acetaminophen. It is disgusting but it helps. I'm taking it 3 times a day also. The hospital wasn't pushing meds so much, but my first night I thought I'd have to beat up the nurse for pain meds. It was midnight before I got anything and I knew I'd never sleep like that. By the morning, I was feeling great and ready to escape.

I agree that it would be fun to check in with each other, to watch our progress and give each other support. Have a good night.

Congrats to all! I was banded on 2/19 and I'm really loving my shakes. I've been experimenting so I'll share some ideas with you. It gets boring quick!

I use the EAS 100% whey Protein Powder.< /p>

I mix it with Blue Diamond brand, unsweetened almond and coconut milk( it is found in the dairy section and it is DELISH!)

I make a vanilla one and add a few tablespoons of frozen orange juice mix to make a creamsicle.

I make a chocolate one and add two teaspoons of sugar-free Jello pudding powder( cheesecake flavor or white chocolate.)

I also make one with a cold cup of Decaf coffee, one scoop of vanilla powder and one scoop of chocolate.

I always grind some fresh nutmeg( from the actual nut) into all of my shakes.

Also, adding some banana extract or any flavor pure extract helps!

I bought one of those "blender cups" that has a round, whisk-like ball in it so I rarely use my blender.

Good Luck and Happy Banding!

The coffe flavored shake was a proticcino instant drink from Health Wise. I got all my shakes from my weight loss clinic and the brand they have is Health Wise. Because I just started, I haven't gotten into trying other brands or recipes.< /p>

Congratulations on your banding, and thanks for your ideas on making Protein shakes interesting. I know that going by the package directions will get boring fast. I bought a can of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Vanilla and Unjury Classic chocolate. Right now, they are tolerable. I will try nutmeg at noon...one of my favorites.

Thanks Grateful mama. I'll have to look up Health Wise. I'm not bored yet, but I'm sure it will happen. My nightmares are of pureed meat. Just the thought is scary.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
