Food consistency

Hello Every One !

I've been banded for 2 years and 6 months. Just recently, I kindda stretched my pouch a little bit, and now I'm on a liquid diet to make my pouch small. My doctor told me to be on liquids for 7 days to un-stretch my pouch. I'm just trying to go back to the basics... Once I'm back to eating solid protein, should I chew the food to be a bit chunky, semi-soft, or pureed consistency before I swallow?

Thank you for your reply !

  • I don't chew to a puree. I never have. I don't want the food passing through the band like it's liquid, but that's me. I make sure I break down any big chunks but I'd say when I swallow it's usually l

Hello! Definitely pureed or mushy before you swallow, no chunks left. It will help assure you don't get stuck, too. Best wishes.

Ditto to what Missy has advised. And take VERY tiny bites. That will ensure that even if you swallow too quickly by accident without chewing enough, at least the amount and size of food going down is tolerable.

Btw, how did you stretch your pouch? How much were you eating?

Just trying to get a feel of how much food ppl can tolerate before they're band gets pissed lol

Well... Basically, i had stopped following the rules, and had emotional eating problems. I just strated eating a lot, basically. I'm trying to get back to the mindset that i had when I started my weight loss journey.

I don't chew to a puree. I never have. I don't want the food passing through the band like it's liquid, but that's me. I make sure I break down any big chunks but I'd say when I swallow it's usually like chunky soup. If it's a fibrous food like steak, or very hard protein like prawns I take extra care to break down the big chunks so I don't get stuck but I won't chew it to a puree.
