I have had back trouble for years. It is one of the reasons I had LapBand surgery. Several doctors told me if I lost weight it would help my back. 75 lbs lost and I still have back trouble. My family doctor is a great doctor but his bedside manner sucks. He tells it straight and doesn't care if it hurts your feelings.

Find a new doctor. Find one who will understand how hard you are working to lose weight. Find one who is willing to help you not degrade you. Keep your head up and keep up the good work.

The truth is that if your BMI is high, you're not a good candidate for surgery. Spine doctors can be brutally honest and have the bedside manner of Atilla the Hun. Mine told me the same thing, lose weight, one way or the other, just get it done and then come back. He wanted my BMI <30. Just the risk of surgery and anesthesia makes us poor surgical candidates and even if the surgery was possible, the outcome might be compromised by our obesity. These doctors have huge egos and rely on good stats for their professional reputation. It wasn't personal, but like you, when my back doctor told me I was too fat, it hurt.

yeah it did u would think in med school they would learn manners but i understand all the terms of having to be safe but i wish he would have explained it the way you explained it that wouldnt of degraded me or made me feel like someone just emotionally raped me i just hope i can loose enough to fix my back issuse :)

I had my 1st (of 4) back surgeries in 2000, weighing over 220. My dr never said a word to me about my weight. Maybe its cuz they were so surprised to see a 35 yr old female in the VA hospital. (Injured on active duty). More recntly however, my dr did blame my hypertension on my fatness. And once I lost over 100 lbs, that stopped also.

Most drs skip the part in mecial school where they learn bedside manner and handwriting skills. Ur doing well with ur loss. Forget what he says. U know ur doing well. Keep it up.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
