My Fitness Pal says Starvation Mode

Recommended Posts

Question for more experienced bandsters....

I'm 2 weeks out and diligently recording my calories consumed in My Fitness Pal. I haven't had serious hunger return yet ( I have no fill), just a bit mid afternoon so my Dr said to have a snack. I'm on "mushy" stage so have been eating eggs/ Greek yogurt/ cottage cheese etc.. primarily. I'm totally satisfied on about 800-850 calories and am averaging 65-70 g of Protein.

Daily, the My Fitness Pal app tells me I'm not eating enough and my body will go into starvation mode. Should I keep doing what I'm doing? I've lost 14 lbs in 2 weeks but no movement in 4 days. I thought the point was to eat until you are satisfied, but no more. I'm confused but consider myself fortunate not to be in "Bandsters Hell"

Any advise would be appreciated.

Myfitnesspal says the same thing to me when I log my calories....I don't worry about it, I just keep on doing what I'm doing. My nutritionist told me the first 6 weeks were for healing, not to pay attention to calories, just Protein and Water intake.. You're doing great at 2 weeks post op and you could always talk to your nutritionist if you have worries. Best Wishes! :)

You wouldn't want to do such a low-calorie diet on your own. It's different when you are working with a dietician and other medical staff. I assume they have you on vitamins/supplements and will be doing bloodwork periodically to make sure you don't develop any nutritional deficiencies. That's what makes it safer than a crash diet.

I agree with everyone else. MFP is treating you as a normal adult person, when in fact you are now a banded adult person.

Don't worry about stalls in your weight, it will all work out if you are following the plan.

Congratulations on your loss so far!

I think you can go under settings and change your calorie intake yourself. I havent used that sight personally in a while because I like spark people better but I think with any of them you can change all your intakes to what you want them to be.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
