Eating on fill day

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My surgeon has given me instructions for eating when I have fills and this is what he says:

Day of - Clear liquids only

1st day after - thick liquids

2nd day after - soft foods

3rd day after - regular diet

Does anyone else have rules like this? I'm starved on the day of and first day after!

No, my Dr. always just said 24-48 hours of liquids.....

But is sounds like good advice to me....I have noticed people trying to eat the wrong foods when their bands are possibly irritated, traumatized, only to continue to agitate it...then they go back and get an unfill tthinking they were too tight....then wish they had another fill because they can eat too much....

And back and forth and back and forth....

In my experience, I had to learn to co-exisit with my WLS....

My doc allows me to have liquids on the first day. I can have what I can tolerate the next day. Hugs

All drs are a little different. After a fill I finish the day on liquids and have mushies the entire day after per my drs instruction.

Full liquids 24 to 48 hours depending on what I can tolerate, followed by 2 days of mushy food

I have the same rules for getting fills from my doctor. I am always starving too! He told me that I am able to eat up until I go in to have my fill done.

Usually, I'm told liquids for 24 hours, then a soft diet for next day or two. Then back to regular eating after this. Each of us is different, do what's best for you. You will feel the band if you do something very wrong.

My doctor recommends 3-5 days of liquids then soft foods. I typically do 3 liquids and 2 soft.

That's exactly the same rules as my surgeon wants clear for 1 day then thick Soups for 1 then softs for 1 then back to normal eating

My doc says 3 days full liquids then 1-2 days mushies.

My doc has not mentioned a restricted diet the day of or after. I had my third fill yesterday and have not had any problems with resuming my regular diet. Although as previously stated, it is best to follow your physicians instructions. They know better than we do. Good luck and God Bless!

No solid food 2 hours before, liquids the rest of the day, then a day of mushies, then back to solid food.< /p>

I appreciate everyone's feedback, but now I'm more confused than ever! Why are there so many varying rules for the same darn thing? That just makes no sense to me. I'm going to heed my doctor's instructions, but I still want to know why it's different for everybody.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
