It is becoming my best friend. Lately I can not go to the bathroom! I don't want to be dependent on these so I try for 2 days but I have a very hard time eating fruits due to the band, not because I don't love them.

My Dr. suggests milk of mag .. I used that post op and it really relieved my constipation without being too strong.. other laxatives can be too strong... for the lapband I think.. you should probably ask your Dr.

The biggest problem with taking laxatives all the time is that your body starts to rely on them. They may "clean you out", but you need to find ways to do it naturally.

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water!

Your body can become dependent on laxatives! Not a good thing! There is nothing you can harm regarding the lap-band and laxatives, its just not good for your body! Definitely increase your fiber! Constipation and being irregular can cause divroticulosos. I found that out during my latest colonoscopy! It pushes out on the colon and causes pockets. EWWWWW......that sounds like to much information doesn't it...lol

Well, my doctor says laxatives are a BIG no-no;

I use the fiber gummies (2 per day) and take a stool softener (Colace) every other day.

I agree with the above posts... don't become dependent upon those. You may be having even more of a difficult time now simply because your body expects the laxative to do it's job for it. My doctor recommends milk of mag. also if you're having trouble having a bowel movement. Also, just like many have said, take a fiber supplement. Another thing is, are you staying hydrated and drinking enough? I've noticed in the past, pre band, that if I don't drink enough I have a very difficult time having a bowel movement.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
