laxative

It is becoming my best friend. Lately I can not go to the bathroom! I don't want to be dependent on these so I try for 2 days but I have a very hard time eating fruits due to the band, not because I don't love them.

  • Try adding some fiber to your diet. My dietitian recommends adding ground flax seed to my protein shakes. It works and the shake keeps me full for longer too.

Thank you. Although I feel like the laxatives help clean me out? But I'm not so sure they are good to take with the Lapland

My Dr. suggests milk of mag .. I used that post op and it really relieved my constipation without being too strong.. other laxatives can be too strong... for the lapband I think.. you should probably ask your Dr.

I had that problem I just started takin magnesium pills and I drunk soy milk I stop drinking 1 percent milk and since I change the milk and take the pill I go every other day. It's the protein will keep u constipated

The biggest problem with taking laxatives all the time is that your body starts to rely on them. They may "clean you out", but you need to find ways to do it naturally.

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water!

Your body can become dependent on laxatives! Not a good thing! There is nothing you can harm regarding the lap-band and laxatives, its just not good for your body! Definitely increase your fiber! Constipation and being irregular can cause divroticulosos. I found that out during my latest colonoscopy! It pushes out on the colon and causes pockets. EWWWWW......that sounds like to much information doesn't it...lol

Well, my doctor says laxatives are a BIG no-no;

I use the fiber gummies (2 per day) and take a stool softener (Colace) every other day.

Try drinking hot lemon water, it helps me. Take half a lemon to a mug of hot water, as if u were drinking a tea.

I'm the same way I can't go to the restroom so the only thing that help me is coffee I'm the morning I just need a small cup and I'm good u should try it I drink it a least every other day cuz I can go about 2or 3 times a day

I agree with the above posts... don't become dependent upon those. You may be having even more of a difficult time now simply because your body expects the laxative to do it's job for it. My doctor recommends milk of mag. also if you're having trouble having a bowel movement. Also, just like many have said, take a fiber supplement. Another thing is, are you staying hydrated and drinking enough? I've noticed in the past, pre band, that if I don't drink enough I have a very difficult time having a bowel movement.

EAT MORE FIBER! Or take a fiber gummy with a probiotic yummy. Thats what I do and it works great. If you become dependent on laxatives, your body will lose the normal sensation to go and you will have to retrain your colon when to know its time to go.
