How do you know the band has slipped and can eating too much cause this condition. I have been overeating nd now Im very concerned.

I don't want to scare you, BUT...I think that is the reason my band slipped - from over eating & stretching my pouch. They say you can't, but you actually can over eat. I stretched my pouch so much that the band slipped and it created this little "pocket" where old food & liquids are sitting (and rotting). My understanding is that frequent barfing is one of the symptoms of a slipped band. I haven't been able to keep solids down for two weeks now and am having my band removed this Saturday by the original surgeon. I wish you luck & I hope that everyone else who doesn't think they can damage their band, will take notice. I wish I would have heard this earlier:cry :cry :cry .

My band has been more trouble than it's worth from the very beginning. Right now I have unfilled as much as possible and will await insurance so I can get it removed all together.

I've been diagnosed with PCOS, a condition which prohibits weight loss and actually involves weight gain for no apparent reason.

Thank goodness I discovered the Atkins low carb plan of eating which is the only thing that has resulted in significant weight loss and it's easy to do and after the first two days there's no hunger involved. I've heard reknowned doctors talk about sugar as being as toxic as tobacco and I now believe it. For anyone who wants to jump start their metabolism, I suggest buying the Atkins New Diet Revolution book and trying this plan. It works for me.

Dude. If that was the truth, I would have NEVER have lost any weight at all. Nor would any other ladies with PCOS. We just have to be more careful with what we eat and how often we exercise (meaning accountable for our actions) than others.

And the reason women gain weight with PCOS is usually deeply rooted in insulin sensitivity issues.

Hello, I have been researching and figuring out some things about this Lap Band thing, I have been considering getting it, but it seems everyone here has had it slip or erode or something thats not of the good. I was curious if to get it removed you have to have something happen to it, I want to keep it so I can lose the weight, but I guess Im just curious if its a definate thing that something WILL happen to it. If its for sure that something would happen to it, I dont want to risk anything if I cant keep it long enough.

:help:

I realize this person posted once, over a month ago, but I feel compelled to write a response anyway.

You are in the "Life After Lap-Band Removal" forum so OF COURSE just about everyone here in this forum has had a slip or erosion.

Complications are not a definite thing that will happen. Surgical techniques and bands have vastly improved over the past couple of years.

I haven't visited you guys here in FOREVER! I had my band removed in 2006 after two slips and after initially gaining back 20 (give or take) pounds, I decided I would not have gone through all of this only to end up back where I started -- 100 pounds overweight! I slowly, over two years, averaging a loss of a miserable one-half pound a week, lost 40 pounds. Quit dieting. Changed my eating habits (less carbs and sugar, more protein) for life and lots of exercise. I have maintained the loss for a year. I have no regrets about getting the band -- it jump started my weight loss (and gets credit for 20 pounds gone) and gave me a glimpse of what life is like without being so overweight! I know it's obnoxious to hear this, but if I can do it, anyone can! There is life after lap band removal. GO GET 'EM.

Elizabeth

lap band placed 8/03

revision due to slip 3/05

removed due to slip 2 3/06

total weight loss, give or take a few: 65 pounds...20 to goal. YAY ME!

As I research "options", I did not know the band was not for life. Considering it's to be removed, if over eating is the real problem, money is better spent on a permanent solution.

If it was hard to loose weight before the band, it will be just as hard after in theory. If you over eat and are forced to not over eat due to "pain" or some other discomfort of having a smaller stomche, once that is not there -- it's free range.

It would be great to think the eating habits have changed, but I know from experience I changed for over a year w WW and then fell right back and then some.

This was a good read for sure.

I've never heard that the Band is not for life if one does not have complications. The Band will last long beyond you and me. :)

If you want a more permanent solution without fills, you can look at the sleeve gastrectomy. However, realize that it is not reversible. The portion of your stomach is gone forever.

The band will last forever but how many people do you personally know that have had the band 10 years or longer? How many people posting have had it 10 years or longer?

I know one person on OH that has had hers for 7 years and loves it, the longest I have met is someone that PMed me. She's had it for 9 years and wants a revision to a sleeve.

Theoretically, the band is supposed to be forever but that's not what is turning into reality. Doctors are doing more band revisions today than ever before.

The sleeve is permanent, why wouldn't anyone want permanent weight loss? Have you ever been on a diet that you only wanted temporary weight loss? ;o)

I have not heard the band lasts for life. My doctor told me that the FDA states the Band product lasts for 10-years.

My doctor states is can last longer than 10-years, but that it is a piece of equipment and as such will not last forever.

Here are links to the FDA web site and FDA reports pertaining to Bands, just in case you are interested.

I had band issues on and off for a year before it finally slipped and I had to have it removed. :crying:That was back in March and I have worked hard to keep the weight off, but have gained enough that my pants are terribly tight.:w00t: I don't know how much because I refuse to step on the scale. I also refuse to buy bigger pants. So, until I loose weight I will be uncomfortable. Makes me think before I put food in my mouth! :)

I also, just got the news yesterday that my insurance has approved me to have the band put back in. I plan to have the surgery in February. I can't wait to have my band back.:)

I was originally banded in 2004 and had my band removed in 2007 because it slipped and my surgeon wasn't confident about replacing it. I opted to keep it out. I gained all of the 80 pounds that I lost plus 20 more! I have just gotten rebanded 2 weeks ago and I am well on my way to losing the weight again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
