Well, my post op diet was a bit rough. My surgeon is a bit more cautious than most. I had 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of mushy food, 2 weeks of soft food, then FINALLY I was allowed to eat real food again. It was a long, hungry couple of months but I did it without cheating.

As for my diet in the year since then, it's pretty simple really. I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day, a minimum of 60g of Protein daily, and no more than 20-25% fat daily. I don't do the whole low carb thing like so many do. I just don't think it's at all realistic long term. However, I do try to eat healthy carbs. For instance, I won't buy carbs that are white or have the words "enriched" or "bleached" on the label. That's all just a fancy way of saying "processed junk". I buy brown rice, whole wheat bread, and whole grain Pasta.

For me, it's worked very well. I'm very content with my lifestyle and eating habits.

I was on Clear Liquids for two weeks, full liquids for a week, mushies for two weeks then real food. I eat high Protein low carb with vegetables and fruit being my only carbs that I eat. This is just my way of eating. I also do not eat meat because it does not agree with my band so I substitute my protein with veggie burgers, tofu, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and Beans.< /p>

How do you stick with the post op diet? What are some examples of clear liquids?

With a lot of willpower lol. It's not easy.

Clear liquids are anything you can see through: broth, apple or white grape juice. The only non-clear liquid I was allowed was Protein Shakes.

My post op was the same as Missy's and have the same advice. I just want to add that everyone is different so don't compare yourself to anyone. Follow the rules your dr gives and go to support groups.

Your starting off well cutting out sugary drinks. Cut soda completely. Start chewing your food a lot and eat slowly and cut into small pieces. That is the way you will have to be eating. Also start walking and build every week. Ask lots of questions both here and dr office

Congrats, you'll do great.

Wendy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
