5 days post-op... so hungry

Recommended Posts

So, i'm five days post op, and i'm on a full liquid diet for another 9 days... Today was the first day I actually got "hungry" but it's come back with a vengence... i'm concered because I can't drink much of my Protein Shakes (maybe two or three sips.. they fill me up very fast) but by the time lunch comes around, I feel terrible and ready to attack the cream Soup bowl, haha. I tried mixing some Soups togeather tonight like I saw on a diffrent thread, and it was amazing... but what should I do doing the rest of the day? I ate dinner around 515 tonight but at 4pm i was soo hungry i ate a sugarfree fuddgie pop thinking it would hold me, but it didn't.. I was still so hungry.. Is it normal to eat more than three times a day durning this stage? Does anyone have any ideas for maybe some more filling soulotions?

My doc gave me a very specific guide. 1st week - full liquids - 1/4 cup 5-6 times/day; 2nd Week - mushies - 1/4-1/2 cup 4-6 times/day; 3rd Week - soft foods - 1/2-3/4 cup 3-5 times/day; 4th Week - all foods - 3/4-1 full cup 3 times/day. I was only eating about 2 ounces per meal during full liquids so I definitely ate several times a day. I would fill up quickly but it's not like it held me for several hours. Worst case scenario, always check with your doc and see what their guidelines are.

I went to see my surgeon 2 weeks post op and explained like you that I was always hungry! She said that its normal and means the stomach is healing and the swelling is going down. I know it's hard but just think you've only got another week and then mushy food ( go by what the dr says though) I used to make my shakes with a little extra Water and have half for Breakfast, half for lunch then Lemon water in between. Then I'd do the same with the Soup but have half for afternoon tea and half for dinner. Maybe water it down so you might be able to get more then a couple of sips in. Hang in there coz its definitely normal and means your healing. Maybe ring your doctor and talk to them about it they might be able to suggest other options :) good luck !

Youll get use to srring the food around u. Today they ordered in sandwiches and i just drank my Protein Shake. :/

Tomorrow its someones birthday so they're ordering again and its a small office so its not like i can avoid it.

Lol.. Its tough.. But u just gotta keep thinking that if u mess up your band in any way that would be detrimental to your success. So just gotta follow doctors orders :/

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
