I was just wondering how the Doctor decides what size band to put in,do you have a choice, I am afraid if they put in a 10cc band for example and its at the max with no restriction there is no where for them to go with it and it was a waste , what are all your thoughts ?

It doesn't matter. Doctors wait to see your stomach to determine what size they use.

My doctor only puts the largest one 14cc. It is my understanding that you can go over limit because it stretches

Bigger isn't necessarily better at all. It's all depends on your anatomy. Some people have bigger stomachs than others, some have smaller stomachs. If you have a small stomach and a big band, it's going to be a lot harder to get adequate restriction in your band.

Your surgeon knows what's best. Trust him.

Best wishes.

My doc waits until he gets in there. Apparently he gave me what he calls the regular one which is 10cc's. But he has a larger one as well.

The Dr decides the size. It's all about the shape and size of your stomach.

I have a 10cc band and I'm not worried about it. If your loosing weight your stomach will shrink also.

I haven't heard one story about running out of restriction room yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
