Recommended Posts

I'm on my second day of liquid diet and man is it hard!! Before it actually got here I remember thinking oh it can't be that hard.. Boy I had no idea! I really hope that I can stay busy and keep on pushing on.. Does anyone have any good tips to help my rumbling stomach? Keep our eyes on the prize right?!

I am scheduled for lap band in Feb. and the three weeks of liquids( post op) has me nervous! Do you feel hungry? I think I will be fine as long as I am not ravenous. i have to cook for my son and I don't want to be sobbing while doing so! LOL

Well I'm not going to lie I do feel hungry!! Lol! I think the hardest part is to ignore your brain and belly telling you through growls that your hungry. My suggestion is to keep busy, stay away from real food, and be prepared with your Soups and Protein Drinks. My husband has been a dear and made dinner for himself and our daughter far away from me. Just try and keep focused on our goal- this is for our future! We can do it!! <3

I was banded on Jan 14th and all I can say is that it's hard to get through this part of it. My preop diet included a small salad and some veggies in my Soup for dinner. Can you eat anything or is it a full liquid diet? Regardless, you just have to slog through it and know that if you don't cheat, you may have an easier time of it post op if your liver has shrunk as it's supposed to. Don't be surprised if you go a little crazy...I had a full blown meltdown about halfway through my two weeks. Thank goodness my sister and son haven't held it against me...LOL. Good luck and know that you have alot of support on this site.

Wait!! Are you guys saying that I will be on a liquid diet for two weeks BEFORE my surgery? I was told I will be on a liquid diet for three weeks AFTER but nothing about BEFORE! I am slithly in shock. I do have an appt next week where I was told they will go over everything, but geesh, I have been going to appointments for months with no mention of this.

On Day 7 here (5 shakes a day....no food). In some respects it got easier. In other respects....my resolve is waning thin. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday (2/7). Just plowing thru it. I always, always have Water or some other sugar free concotion near me. By the end of the day...I am pretty exhausted from my body fighting for fuel and living off of whatever is in my system....so I go to bed early. I really just try not to obsess over it too much. I have to cook for children and that is the hardest time. Good luck...we can do this.

Each doctor is different. I lost 50 prep so no liquid diet for me.

not all doctors do this but most want you to do 1-3 weeks on the pre-op diet. also...the diets can be different. some folks could eat Protein, some only liquids. depends on your doctor's protocol. just know that you must follow whatever directive they give you..

All docs require different things.

Oh my goodness! You cook dinner for your kids - GOD BLESS YOU. I couldn't do that.

Thanks so much for the support guys!! You guys are awesome! Yes my diet is complete liquids- oh what I would give for even one lettuce off of a salad! Lol!! I feel like I have to take one day at a time but I have found myself counting the days, minutes, seconds!! Lol! I am so anxious for this change- I have tried so many different diets to never succeed. I have such faith that this will work. Hard work but I know it's all going to be worth every minute of it when I can look in the mirror and say who is that sexy girl that's been hiding all this time?!! We totally got this!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
