Surgery Scheduled for March

Recommended Posts

I just joined today but have been hanging out on the site looking at success stories and the types of bumps in the road that people are encountering. My surgery is scheduled for March 1st and I will start my pre op diet next Monday. You ladies are doing so well with the pro op diet alone....I hope to do so as well. :-)

Nicole, myfitnesspal.com is a great website where you can track your calories/protein/etc and exercise minutes/calories. I like it better than sparkpeople because it's more of a clean interface with fewer distracting ads. In the past one of the keys for weight loss for me has been recording everything I eat, and I want to make sure I keep doing that. I think it will be helpful as we have to get in a lot of Protein after getting banded and it can be tracked on the site.

Hi Jen, I do not start my liquids until next Tuesday and have very mixed feelings...excited because I know whats to come and glad I get a chance at a dry run before the actual surgery. But also worried...obviously i like food :) Good luck tomorrow, you will have to keep me posted. I hope you are having a nice Valentines dinner tonight. And I love your quote about nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. I don't know but I am looking forward to it..

Does anyone not have a pre-op diet besides me? I'm worried that I won't lose that much weight if I don't do one or maybe I should do a really intense workout regimen for the next 2 1/2 weeks??

I don't have a pre-op diet but that is normal for the protocol of my surgeon.

I don't think the goal of the pre-op is to lose weight (so doing an intense workout regimen isn't necessary for the LB) my understanding is it is to defat the liver to make entry/exit into the area smoother for the surgeon. Your liver gets "moved" if you will during the intervention, and if it is really fatty, that can make things slippery for the instruments.

From reading these boards, it looks like most US surgeons require a pre-op diet, but for some reaons mine here in Europe doesn't.

Hi everyone , my surgery was for February and now is for march 6 at 6:30 a.m. I did start my liquids diet, 4 boost a day, 1 boost in the morning with a fruit, 1 at lunch, 1 with a fruit and one once of cheese in the afternoons and 1 for souper. I did start on this Friday and I have to do it for 3 weeks until march 8. Im not nervous , but today after my last boost I was hungry and my husband made me a cafe and calm me. I now I will do this, its behind a year that I'm waiting for the surgery and reading all about it . I now it only a tool to help to loose weight . So anyone on the march 8. Good luck to all of you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
