Hello everyone!

This is my first post, I have decided to undergo the lap band surgery and am trying to decide on where to go. My two front runners are Dr Colbourne at SWLC and Bluewater surgical center.

I was very impressed with the followup plan and dietician at Bluewater, however the consultation felt rushed and I didn't even get to meet the surgeon. Makes me wonder if they will deliver on their promises post op.

Dr Colbourne was very informative and professional. He answered all my questions and did not make me feel rushed. However I live a few hours away so would not be able to take advantage of onsite nutritionalists.

Any feedback from former patients of either clinic is appreciated!

Thanks,

Dr. C. has been out to many of my coffee groups (I wasn't banded at SWLC)... and I've met several of the his bandsters.... he's a great guy. Everyone I have talked raves about the follow up care. Maybe you can work with the nutritionist on the phone and email or fax your food journal into the clinic. I would talk to SWLC about this.

Hi there, I'm getting banded on Feb 4th. I met my surgeon today; Dr. Hong. I'm going to CIBO Clinic in Toronto. So far, they have been very, very supportive. The consultation was amazing.

Good luck with your choice!

Hi there. Congratulations on your decision! How was CIBO? I know they are 2K more than other clinics for the Allergan band. Why did you decide to go with them? Are you happy with your decision? Thanks and Good luck!!

Hi. I'm considering lap band and deciding between cibo and swlc. The pre op vlc for swlc has me worried because I'm not sure what it involves. I've ruled out slimband due to many reasons and surprisingly got my $2500 deposit refunded. I have a consult scheduled for march 22 at cibo. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I went with dr cobourne at swlc, couldn't be more satisfied. Extremely professional and helpful staff made the surgery day and recovery great. They have been calling to follow up, and answered all my question. I'm already down over 30 lbs from before starting the pre-op diet.

Good luck on your lap band journey!

Thanks for the reply. What is the vlc pre op diet. Is it fluids that are prescribed or can you eat normal food while following their guidelines. I don't want to share my decision with my co workers so I'm a bit anxious about packaged foods during lunch hours. Thanks again.

It's a prescription thing, powder that you mix with Water. I was worried to, just told people I got a juicer and was trying out something new. Afterwards I told them I plateaued and switched to a high Protein diet, like south beach. No one asked any question. What I'm eating now is actually similar to south beach anyways, just small portions!

Congratulations mugs!!

I've met several people from SWLC that have come out to my coffee groups and they were very pleased with Dr. Cobourn and the follow up care they received. Dr. Cobourn as also been out to several of my coffee group to give a great presentation on how the band works.

Where are you located?

If you have any questions or would like to chat on the phone I'd be happy to chat with you... I have free long distance.

Hi Tom,

I spoke with Dr Cobourn last week and he seems very pleasant and knowledgable. I'm a bit more than an hour out of Toronto. I will send you an email tomorrow. Any extra info that I can gather would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
