Day two and my stomach is killing me!

Recommended Posts

I've been afraid to drink anything because every time I do my stomach hurts. I get bloated and full right away and I'm only drinking two ounces.

I know it's only day two but that and that fact that I can't take deep breaths are my only complaint. Is this normal?

I bet it is from the CO2 gases the doctors use during laparoscopy surgery. It can radiate to you shoulders even. It should improve soon. GasX may help.

Walk, walk, walk! This really helped me out! After surgery it is very important to take deep breaths for your lungs. Stand up, hold a pillow against your stomach and make sure you take deep breaths! You need to do this several times every few hours. Good Luck and let us know how your progressing!

Yes it is normal, move around walk, take gas-x and about 2ozs was all I cold tolerate in the beginning. It gets better in a day or so, the gas is the worst.

Take 2 oz whenever you can... in a day it will add up. And yes, it does get better!

If you are not doing so already, make sure you are taking small sips and waiting like 10-15 seconds between sips. The bigger the sips, the more gas builds up, which added to the gas in your body from the surgery, results in an uncomfortable feeling.

What really hurt me was seeing my dogs eyes when I told her she couldn't sit on my lap.

That gas pain will leave you starting tomorrow.

I slept in my recliner the first night, second night I slept in my stomach.

The pain goes away quickly.

sip-sip-sip is your friend.....no more 'gulpGulpGULP' ....it took me all day to get 10 oz of Water down the first few days....

It was Day 5 before I could actually drink a cup of tea before it got cold.

sip----pause......sip........longer pause........sip.....

6 weeks later I learned how to nibble on a saltine so it took 15 minutes to eat it.

This is the beginning of learning how to NOT gulp as we have always done.

Don't give up and don't give in.....sip.....sip....sip....it's plenty!!!

Although I was banded in 2010, my recovery seems like it was yesterday. If I recall, I really had no real pain after the surgery, but the gas in my chest was the most uncomfortable thing. While you had it go away quickly, mine lasted up to two weeks. For new bandsters, it is important to know that each person has a different recovery experience as well as a different weight loss journey. The first few weeks post surgery can definitely be annoying, and it may take several fills before you feel like you are restricted, but everyone has a different experience.

A tip for those of you new bandsters, who are still learning the ways about timing while you eat, I found that setting a timer for 20-30 minutes on my phone, was the perfect amount of time to eat as long as you take one bite every 30-45 seconds. My doctor told me that it takes about 20 seconds for the food to pass through the band into the lower portion of the stomach. Also, by keeping yourself on schedule while you eat or drink, will fill you up faster and give you less of a chance of having the food get stuck (as you focus during during those seconds to savor and chew the food to a pulp).

As you progress in your weight loss journey, you will have days when certain foods will go down, which others won't. My family who had the band, as well as others I know, refer to the band as a "fickle b***h" because how tight you are can depend on not only how much Fluid is in your band, but on stress, alcohol consumption (makes food go down easier because it relaxes your esophagus, etc.)

I speak at the information sessions as a live testimonial for the NYU weight loss group in manhattan. If you have any questions on pre, post or cosmetic surgery, please feel free to ask me (whether here or In a message...)

Day 7 here, it has taken me 4 hours to go through 24 ounces of cranberry juice today. The instructions from my Dr. for right after surgery told me not to expect to go through more than 4 ounces in 45 minutes, but to take small sips all day long. It is going to feel really weird, but sip and wait, sip and wait. Heating pad helped me for the chest pains.

Your journey has begun, welcome to the club. ;-)

Hello Everyone! I had my surgery on the 15th, and this seemed as good a place as any to say howdy. Gas pain was the worst, I had no idea that's why my shoulder was killing me. Mine went away within three days. Lots of walking and deep breathing worked for me. Anyway, nice to be here! Especially glad I found a forum for guys, kind of the minority out there.

Welcome to the Journey Dan. You may want to start a separate thread to introduce your self rather than tacking on to an older one.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
