Hi all,

So I just had my endoscopy done which was the final pre testing for my surgery. My insurance requires the 6 month pre diet and to be honest I've stayed exactly the same weight. My doctor told me I needed to lose 7 pounds before my surgery. I have been dieting (not perfect) but with no luck. Anyway, did anyone else have the 6 month diet? If so when did you finally get a surgery date? Did you have to wait until after you received approval or do they give it to you pending approval? Just curious. Thanks for all the help! Very excited!

Hi there,

I had to do the 6 month diet as part of insurance requirements. My Doctor had a 5% weight loss goal for me that I had to achieve or he wouldn't do the surgery. He was concerned about the size of my liver and wanted me to shrink it as much as possible. It is for the safety of the surgery.

As for the surgery date. I got a call from my Doctors office at the end of month 5 and we discussed a surgery date. In order for them to submit approval request to the insurance company they needed to include a surgery date so they needed my input to make sure the date worked for me.

So I knew the date at the end of month 5 and got my approval from insurance half way through month 6. Surgery date obviously hinged on the approval so it was all tentative until the insurance company gave thumbs up.

I was required to do a 6 month supervised diet. I had done weight watchers in the past n that worked for my insurance even tho I had gained the weight back. They just wanted proof that j had already tried to loose the weight on my own. Approval came till the end for me n Two weeks before surgery I was put on a two week liquid diet in which I lost 14 lbs.

Hi and yes i too had to do the 6 month diet. My insurance was approved as soon as i did the orientation. I think most insurance require that now before they pay for it to see if you can do it on your own. But i did not loose any weight not until i did the liquid diet.

I had to do 6 a month diet...my weight stayed the same. I got a surgery date 3 weeks before my approval and I was approved only 3 days before my surgery! :)

I had to do a 3 month diet. I'm on month 2 and have barely lost any weight.

You should try weight watchers. It really works if you follow the plan.

I did the 6mth supervised diet and lost 20lbs and my Dr wouldn't set date until my final insurance approval, which came in exactly 1 wk from submitting all my info.

Surgery was scheduled 2wks later, but due to my grandaughter being in the hospital, I had to wait another month.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
