Did you have a calorie limit for the pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I start my liquid diet on 1/21. The written directions give items which you may have in limited quantities such as fat free greek yogurt, juice, milk etc... Did you have a set # of these which you could have or was it based on daily caloric intake?

I will be seeing the doc on 1/7 and will ask him, but starting to get ready by purchasing items I will need.

I had to do medifast and it was limited to 5 shakes/soup/jello a day and 1 bar or a sixth liquid entree. They were not too bad, but the first few days were a little hectic with no caffeine and no sugar, but I drank a lot of flavored water in between to help. To clarify, this was my pre-op diet, I think that is what you were asking about.

I can have unlimited diet soda, crystal light or other sugar/calorie free beverages and broth only based Soups. This is the actual text, I am just confused if I have to stick to these quanitities or calories, again I will ask the doc, just wondering what the norm is.

Consume these liquids in moderation; they contain larger amounts of sugar.

1. juice, Gatorade® or Powerade®- Limit to 2 cups or less each day. (Try to

choose juices lower in sugar such as apple, orange or grapefruit.)

2. Regular Jello, popsicles or no sugar added fudgicles- 3 or less each day.

3. 1 cup of milk (skim, 1%, Lactaid®) 6 ounces light yogurt (Dannon Light,

Yoplait Light or Columbo Light, Greek style yogurt like Chobani (0%) or Fage), ½

cup low fat ricotta cheese or ½ cup Low fat cottage cheese: 3 or less daily.

4. Atkins shakes, Carb Solutions shakes or No Sugar added Carnation

Instant Breakfast-1-3 per day. (These can be found at Osco, Walgreens, CVS,

Walmart, and BJ’s). Carnation Instant Breakfast can be found at any

supermarket.

DO NOT BUY: Slimfast, Ensure, Boost, etc.

I was on 5 Optifast shakes and all the Water I could drink. I could also have tea, coffee and 2 sugar free popsicles.... so I guess that would have been 850 calories. I lostt 22 lbs.

The nutritionist at my hospital gave me a 1200 calorie a day pre op menu. I did it for two weeks before surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
