I too have a strange pain in my left side and I do NOT think is gas. the only way I know to describe it is a "stitch" our cramp in my side like you sometimes get when you eat right before exercising? not too worried about it though.' date=', will ask my surgeon when I see him Monday.[/quote']

That's the exact feeling I get. I haven't asked what it Is but it only happens once in a while. I'm 4 n 1/2 weeks post op n still get the pain once in a while. I don't think it's gas pain either but it feels like when you exsersize n don't breath right. Let me know if find out what it is.

Learning how to eat again!

This is difficult! Take smaller bites' date=' wait, chew.... And no drinking while eating!

Lots to learn!![/quote']

Ugh. So true. Still learning here too. Hey it's a 37 year habit for me that I have to break so yes, it's gonna take time. I've been using baby spoons n cocktail forks to eat n really helps. My bites aren't as small as they probably should be but they are not a table spoon big either.

That's what I told my husband last night when we went to dinner and I had Tomato Soup and a small portion of mashed potatoes (the waitress looked at me funny for just a sec lol) and I got the Soup first and was sipping and sipping, then got the potatoes and was taking small nibbles, but I had to keep reminding myself to set the spoon down, and before I know it, I'm FULL! He's like, you need to remember the rules dear, and I'm like, ITS A 30 YEAR HABBIT!!!! hahaha. Oh this will take sometime. But worth it obviously!

Totally agree blondie! I have been having trouble not wanting to drink while I eat something! I bought a toddler set and eat with that spoon and fork when I am home. I always use my smaller plates when I am eating as well! When I have gone out, I have used the tip of my fork for reference. It sure does take some getting used to when taking the "time" to eat! I work a lot and am in school so planning has been my downfall, I am determined to plan better this week as I move into soft foods! Yay! :)

hello everyone! i was banded on january 25th and have lost 21lbs so far since the pre-op diet <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> recovery is going well.. gas pain all gone thank goodness and just began the mushies stage..... tonight for some reason i am in great pain on my left side....not where my port is but further back.. when i breathe in its a killer <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> i am getting worked up on googling stuff to see what this could possibly be... so i decided to come on here and ask ya'll for your help before rushing to the emergency(my anxiety takes toll of me so im just trying to calm myself <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> ) .... has anyone ever had this???

I know the exact feeling that you are having! I've noticed the pain too and called my doctor. They said that it was probably gas so I've done everything to expel the gas. Then a few days ago I noticed that the pain came after I ate. I really think that it's your body saying, whoa, something is different here. My advice would be to eat super slow and very small portions. Since I revamped my eating, the pain is not as strong.

I gained a pound too... it's Water weight! You can fluctuate around 5lbs, don't worry. Are you weighing yourself everyday? I know it's tempting, but can be destructive, at least that's what I've found. I can guarantee you're not consuming enough to gain 1.5 lbs...

Keep at it girl, you go this!

I also know I don't get enough Fluid in. I have tried, but just don't make it. I don't remember to drink until I'm thirsty. I hate that too

Girllll... That's been my biggest challenge is drinking too little and eating too little Protein. I'm just too full most of the time. I try to keep the cap off my water bottle so I constantly remind myself to sip all day long. You'll get there tho.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
