why does a fill take a few days to "kick in"?

Recommended Posts

I read about people saying their fill take a few days to kick in. Why is this?

I had a fill yesterday and was wondering what if anything I should feel.

I have had 2 fills and have felt nothing, might take a few more for me.

it more about timing...if you can go 4-5 hours between meals the band is tight enough to tell your brain you are still full. if you get hungry b4 that then you need more in the band.

You are supposed to feel satisfied between meals not full. If you feel full you have eaten too much.

My nurses told me that the reason why it can take a couple days for you to feel anything from a fill is it is Fluid moving around in the band. fluids flow basically. If this is your first feel however you may not actually feel anything. It took me 6 months to get restriction.

I don't know the "why", but I do know with my last fill it took a few days before it kicked in for me.

Everyone is different, some feel the fill right away. If it is an early fill, it make take a few to get good restriction

I had my first fill on my third doctor's appointment. I had 1 cc put in my band at surgery and my dr put 3 cc in. I do not feel a difference at all. I expected to feel a difference and be tighter going from 1 cc to 4 cc. I don't know what restriction feels like. I just eat small portions to feel satisfied. If I get full I know I've eaten too much. I hate that feeling its painful so I avoid overeating.

I think a lot of people expect something specific and maybeits not the right expectation to begin with"

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
