Struggling After 1St Year

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded last October 2011. Everythig is good, but in this October I have seemed to get very out of control and have gained 11 pounds. When I went in for my 1 year anniversary they did't seem too concerened, but I am very worried because I can't seem to get back on track. I'm trying, but at the end of the day I tend to screw up. Any ideads on how to get back on track?? Some support would be very appreciated. ;)

I'm new to this, only banded this August, but what if you did a 'pre-surgery' diet again? Maybe if you're that 'strict' for a few days, with no options, it might help you. Or call the drs office and be really forceful about wanting a small fill? Like I said I'm just guessing, but maybe it will help. I think we (I know I do) fear that exact thing. And isn't the band meant to help the most on the 'keeping it off' phase? Thinking of you and keep us in touch with how you are doing.

~hugs~ 11 lbs doesnt sound so bad..but i can imagine its a scarie thought to feel out of control again...

When Im feeling like that first thing in the morning I fill my Water bottle

a special bottle that is just mine ! holds 4 cups..and I drink maybe half of it asap....and then I carry it with me all day long....

when ever I feel a lil hunger...or a lil head hunger...i swig and swig....it really does help motivate me.....and I come here and read lots....

Good Luck...I think your doing wonderful.....~hugs~

My story is just like yours. Same starting weight, I got down to 206 and now I teeter back and forth between 206 and 210. May will be my 2 year bandiversary and I would like to beat goal or at the very least, under 200. I have only lost about 10 pounds in the last year, but like my Dr. said, without the surgery I could be at 340 by now. My nutritionist asked if I was afraid to be under 200, and I think she might be right. I have been in the green zone for months, exercising, and trying to eat more Protein and vegetables, and less junk(tortilla chips and salsa). I don't have any magic answers, but know that you are not alone, in this crazy journey.

Same boat here also I did great then the last 4 months only lost 13 pounds my 1 year was last month. I did realize I was falling back into old habits. Eating late at night and grazing every hour or 2 not much food just a bite here or there but the PA told me it adds up. So back to being more focused. Just keep at it ..

I would urge you to go back to the basics and eat your 3-4 ounces of Protein first, then veggie, then small amount of starch, if desired. Have a small, planned healthy snack between meals. If you feel you are hungry before the 4ish hours is up between, perhaps you need a fill. I know losing weight can losen the band.

Second, I would urge you to track what you are eating. It is easier to be in denial by not doing so. It brings it to reality and you can see where your weaknesses are and what you are really consuming. There are the phone apps myfitnesspal or loseit (I think that is what it's called) to track your food. Kudos to you for recognizing this before it got too far. You can do this!

Lastly, if you have junk in the house, get it out. You can't graze on what isn't there. :)

good luck to you!!

I'm wondering if you may need a small fill. Amazing what a 1/4cc fill can do. Make sure you are getting plenty if Protein and Water. Hang in there.

As the surgery fades in out memory, it is easy to get sloppy about portion sizes and chewing and tracking EVERYTHING we eat. A small fill may help, but only if you focus as hard as you did at the start!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
