Recommended Posts

Hurt your band? I got a stomach bug and ended up vomitting hard...like heaving..dry heaving..it wasnt pretty...The only thing that helped me was half carbonated ginger ale..only a half glass. I was sore around my sternum for days..Im praying I didnt hurt the band or port or anything! Ugh.

I was told if you get a stomach flu your supposed to get an unfill. Thats just my doctor. I would have them check it out though.

I think it would be pretty rare for one time to hurt your band. However, I ended up with a slipped band and only vomited twice. I don't think my surgeon believed I only vomited twice, but it's the truth. Usually it's chronic vomiting that will cause a problem, but always try to avoid it if you can.

That happened to me yesterday as well. I also started puréed food yesterday (9 days post op), but it happened about 5 hours after I ate. All of a sudden I felt uncomfortable and thought I had gas, but vomited. Now my sternum hurts, well my whole abdomen hurts.

i havent had a fill yet and like you, i am scared to cough/vomit

my dr said if that ever happens to let them know so they can advise

just give them a call in the morning as that is what i'd do

like cheryl said, my dr said if i did throw up when i had a fill, they want to take some out

i sure hope you feel better soon :)

Two days ago I experienced my first episode with vomiting. I have 5cc of Fluid in my band.

Afterwards I gave my stomach a rest for about 6 hours. Not wanting to risk dehydration again, I began with sipping plain Water for a couple of hours, and then went back to a full liquid diet for the following day. It was difficult for me to take my prescriptions later that evening; I waited a couple of minutes between pills, and experienced no additional complications.

Everything has felt normal since the day after...however I continue to be conservative with food choices. I'll let my surgeon know what has happened when I keep my next appointment in a couple of weeks.

Based on my recent experiences, I don't believe I need to have my band unfilled. I'll continue to monitor the way I feel. Should anything change with that, I won't hesitate to contact my surgeon.

It is not likely you did any harm with what happened to you. As with all medical related concerns, it will always be best for you to contact your surgeon with medical questions...peace of mind is a priceless commodity!

I've had one incident of intense vomitting and that was six weeks ago and I'm fine and I had fills at that stage, just stuck to liquids for a few days as I was so sore and not hungry. I mentioned it to my doctor as I was afraid I had done damage and she said it was rare with only a few times to do damage, it has to be constant vomitting over a long period to start having complications with the band. Just take it easy till you feel better but let your team know they will reassure you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
