Don't be haveing expectations of getting fills because I have a lapband, and that it doesn't matter how long I've had the band , fills isn't something that comes with it, this is Ucdavis hospital telling me this, I know I need a fill , I've got to travel one and half to two hours to the doctors , I really praying that they be nice enough to let me get a fill even tho they don't like doing them, I wish I knew all this before the operation, I lost 50 lbs , then all the sudden it was like I can eat anything hungry all the time , I stayed the same wieght for about a mth , then started going up and down in wieght gain 5 lbs lose 5 lbs, at the moment I've gain back 10 lbs , starting to panic , because I don't want to gain wieght back, the band works great when I can feel it, for some reason I thought getting fills was part of having the lapband , but not according to my doctor , the 30th I'm taking All my food records and exercise records and am going to plea with them. . 7 mos out , It not to much to ask for a fill , is it?

If you can't go at least 4 hours on a cup of food without being hungry, then yes, you need a fill.

I would demand it. To have a band without fills for adequate restriction is as useless is a balloon with no air in it. It defeats the whole purpose.

Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and make demands. Remember, you are the boss. The doctor is your employee. Demand the job to be done you're paying for.

I never heard of such a thing , where are you?? The whole point in the band is the fills sounds really weird to me . Take along information on the band from the sites . And don't ever be afraid to stick up for yourself you do not need to plead to get what the band is for. THis is crazy....

I know that the doctors want us, the patients, to do the heavy lifting, but if you can eat more than 1 cup and get hungry in less than3 hours, it sounds like a fill might help. The caution is to expect all the work to be done by the fills. This is a life style change and it is going to go on for the rest of your life. Plead your case and show the facts! Good Luck!

I would be looking for another doctor. There is a reason it is called an ADJUSTABLE gastric band!! Without being adjusted to your individual green zone is a waste of time, effort, and money! Your doctor sounds like a quack!

Thank you guys , I've tryed to find another doc and finding one within a hour and half drive of my home , is hopeless , I did find one , but he wanted $1000. And have me take more classes before he would even see me, I'm on disability Medicare and medical, I live in California , gridley California , I've been traveling to sac , Ucdavis , I really wish I could find another doc close by, it's really hard sometime to find a ride to sac, I have no family, friends have done so much for me already by taking me back and forth, that I just can't ask them to do any more, beside their car is broke down. Gridley is between live oak and Biggs which is between yuba city and OROVILLE small town , I exspect to travel some to see a doc but I can't handle anything over a two hour drive ,

It's Ucdavis Supose to be some of the best doctors around , the doc did come into my hosp room and said I just want you to know that my job is done! That he has completed his job , no more will be needing him, I was dumb founded and shocked, and I haven't seen him sense either , it's only the nurses that I get to see, I make app to see the doc and still only the nurses I get to see

I'm so terrible sorry. First if you get anymore rif, I would report his... to the medical board. Perhaps he or his staff has never been trained to do fills. I would ask them that question and if they hedge, I would not return. I'm from WV and know nothing about the doctors there, but I would ask for a referral from your primary care physcian who might have a little pull in finding you a fill doctor. You will be in my prayers and I hope the next time we here from you, you will have some ans.

Congratulations on you great weightloss. Please stay positve. You have a many people pulling for you. God bless. Effie

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
