Is It Ok To "tweek" Your Dr's Diet Plan

Recommended Posts

If you need a break' date=' have the Pasta, just have it in moderation and stay within your daily calorie allowance.

Depriving yourself is setting yourself up for failure. Remember, there are no off limits foods. Everything is allowed in moderation.

If it makes you feel better about the carbs... I've lost 165 pounds in 10 months and I eat carbs regularly and have the entire time since surgery.[/quote']

I have to agree. If you are craving something eating it in moderation is ok. By depriving yourself will only make you "crazy". What I think is that if you need to eat a cookie next time eat an apple that way you are balancing your diet. I was just banded a week ago so I have a loooong way to go but that is my opinion and how I see it.

My success with the band is to never say "NO" to any food. Even a taste of the forbidden fruit will give you satisfaction and then you can move on. This was my downfall for 50 years of saying I can never have certain foods again. I was good for months and even a few years and then the cravings came back so strong I could not fight them off. Hence the yo-yo dieting syndrome. I think I have a handle on this and I do mess up and gain a few pounds and then get back to basics and get it off. I think in my case I have to outsmart that fat little girl inside of me by letting her have her way once in a while and then she quiets down and let's me go on my way. I guess this is all about us and how we can get this to be a lifestyle change permanently instead of a temporary lifestyle to get the weight off. It is just as important to keep the weight off as it is to get it off. Life is funny if we look at it this way and take it in stride.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
