Am I Eating Too Much?

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery November eighth and I'm in the mushy stage, should I be measuring what I eat?

I feel kind of bloated before I even start to eat, so I'll eat a little bit but the feeling don't change. Like tonight I ate a little bit of mash potatoes , it was around a 1/4 of a cup. I could have ate more but I was scared I was eating too much already

Cheznoel, you are exactly right that is what I should be eating. I was just craving mashed potatoes because I haven't had any since September 4th I will do better I promise. so how will I know I'm full and when to stop eating, because like I said I feel bloated before I start

It'll get easier as you go, the bloated icky feeling is normal.

Definitely start measuring your food now. No more than 1 cup of food total per meal. Right now you likely won't be able to finish it all, and that's perfectly fine if you don't eat it all, but it gets you in the habit of having band sized portions so you don't over-eat.

Btw, I went straight for the mashed potatoes on the mushy phase too lol

Mashed potatos was my first mushy and thined mashed potatos were my first full liquids. I added unflavored Protein Powder to mine just to make myself feel better. ;-) Do start measuring now, I did from the beginning. In the beginning it took me weeks to learn to eat a cup of food. I actually wondered how I would ever be able to eat that much at one setting but with practice it gets better and you will be able to eat the cup full of food. Just remember what you are eating in this stage and what you will be eating months down the road is totally different. Do not expect a large weight lose during these first few weeks, your body needs to heal and adjust to the band. Good luck.

. Me too.... But only 1/4 cup.

To answer your questions... I measured from the start

Had my surgery on the 5th and I'm still on liquids. I'm not hungry but I wanna just taste some real food. I go insane every time I see a food commercial

Mashed potatoes and ricotta cheese were my 2 favorite mushy foods. I couldnt eat no more than a 1/4 of cup of food per meal during this stage anyway, I guess that was a good thing.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
