Constant Bad Taste In My Mouth

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else experienced this? What makes it go away? I have had a very sour, metallic taste in my mouth for two days straight. it goes away for an hour after I eat, then comes back. It is especially bad after eating dairy. I have had this a few times since surgery but never constant like this. My doctor said a metallic taste is normal after rapid weight loss (I am down about 125lbs in a year) and its driving me nuts.

This is very common during weight loss. It has a lot to do with what you eat, like you said dairy. What helps is using SF hard candy or flavored water. I use crystal light or propel all the time to add flavor to my waters and keep bad taste down. When I head in somewhere like the mall or grocery I pop an altoid.

When you have a consistent bad taste in your mouth (metallic) it is a sign that you are in ketosis. You may also be experiencing really bad breath too that will not go away. Go to your doctor and request a kitone test.. It could become serious so get checked ASAP :)

Sounds like kerosis but I would mention it to your dr in case there is another reason for concern.

Yep sounds like ketosis which is a state you want to be in as your body will efficiently burn stored fat. High Protein, low carb diets put you into ketosis.

Thank you for all the feedback guys! I am going to mention this to my PA at my next fill appointment just to be safe. In the meantime, guess ill be investing in some strong breath mints and upping my Water. Argh!!

Ive had this since the beginning of preop bleh!

Could it be acid reflux? I having some of that now for the first time and I'm 2 years out.

I'm suffering from this as well. Typically gets bad after lunch. I keep a toothbrush at work and a travel size mouthwash in my handbag. I don't find mints or gum really rid the bad taste.

No, definitely not acid reflux. It is a sweet metallicy taste, that never seems to go away. Lol

It sucks, doesn't it? Glad it's not just me. I will have it for a few days really bad, then the taste goes away for a couple weeks, then back again. So I wonder if certain foods make it worse. Not sure. Gum has been helping me, and drinking more Water. Think ill have to start brushing at work though.

It sucks. I haven't had it in a week or so. It comes and goes.

My PA said I am in "ketosis". She said acid reflux is another possibility though (I doubt that's what it is, personally).

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
