Wondering What To Bring?

Recommended Posts

Hi! My surgery date is November 16 :)

I'm looking for advice on what I should bring with me? I have to travel about 8hours in the car for my surgery and will be staying in a hotel for 3/4 nights. Im not feeling very nervous and would like to be prepared as much as possible.

well, comfy clothes to get in and out of quickly :) and shoes also

i would bring a (heating pad) and some pillows

chapstick (was a lifesaver)

since you will swollen, you will be sipping so bring fluids you like to drink

but the most important thing is bring a positive attitude. you will be well

and you will do just fine. do not over think it or stress out. let the dr's do their thing and you do yours, by resting, taking your meds, stay alert to your body for signs of anything and follow your doctors instructions.

congrats on your upcoming surgery.

Depending on what type of diet your Dr has you on post up.... I would bring those supplies. Its usually clear liquid for the first week but check with his staff. I would also bring Maalox for gas after surgery, pain meds which your Dr prescribed and any other personal items you would normally pack for a trip... make sure you bring comfortable clothes and shoes. As for the hospital... I brought my husband and he carried my identification. The hospital had everything else I needed... Water, socks etc.

Bring a positive attitude and a support person. The rest can be taken care of once you are there. You might want to bring some Clear Liquids if you want things other than plain water... I used Crystal light sticks in the Water for variety!

Thank you all! I wouldn't of ever thought to bring a heating pad! Or Chapstick!

I am very blessed to have my parents supporting me with this journey and to have both of them come with me. I'm really looking forward to the healing and a new start. I think for the most part I will just stick with Water and chicken broth, I'm usually a big Water drinker. Although I was wondering has the temperature of the fluids affected anyone? Should it be room temp? Or is cold water ok?

Thanks again, everyone!

Cheers, Courtney :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
