To Fill Or Not To Fill?

Recommended Posts

I was banded in June with a 10cc band. I've had 3 fills and am now filled to 5.5cc. Not sure if I should get another small fill or if I should wait? I find myself having pressure when I eat and am trying to take smaller bites and chew better. I have only lost 5lbs this month.

You might be a bit tight...failure to lose, maladaptive eating go hand in hand. Try getting a little unfill and you might be able to eat the way you're supposed to...

I agree with msmacchi. If you're already struggling to eat properly, I doubt you need a fill.

Please keep in mind it doesn't matter how tight (or loose) the band is, you won't lose weight if you're not burning more calories than you consume. Perhaps examine your daily calorie intake, see if changes can be made?

Talk to your surgeon, he would know what is best for you.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the advice. I go on Thursday to see my surgeon and see what he thinks. I'm looking for that green zone......not sure everyone finds it but I hope I do.

Have a look at this link, I think it does a great job explaining what to and not to expect from the band. I found it to be very helpful and maybe it can help you too http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Thank you...... That link was helpful. I've been waiting for something to signal to me to stop eating, lol. This makes more sense. I am losing 1-2 lbs a week. I'm so close to my first goal, I think I'm getting impatient.

It's easy to get impatient. Trust me, I'm just as guilty of it.

But losing 1-2 pounds per week is perfect! You're right where you should be. You'll be at your first goal in no time :)

I agree 1.25 pounds a week is not an "only". My doctor would ask am I eating 3 oz of solid Protein and 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 fruit every meal. If I can't than the band is too tight. If you keep a too tight band you will lean towards sliders and those tend to be higher in calories.

Today at 330 was my first fill. (4 ml) I didnt know that I would be banded this early. I had a late lunch (1ish). Now i feel absolutely stuffed. Is this normal ? Im hoping it will pass after my lunch is digested. I hate this feeling. Im miserable.

I have same fill as you banded 1st Oct, I find I am fine till late after ion then I get start to eat loads, not loosing anything, worried as I do not do any excersise due to work commitments, plus not sure about food choices, I don't count cals or weigh my food, I eat most things and have no probs, it's hard to know if you are doing this band thing right x chin up x

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
