Is there anyone out there that continued to drink carbonated drinks like diet soda after they were banded. I can't seem to break the habit and am guilty of having a diet soda every once in awhile. I knew I would have a hard time with it but didn't realize it would be this difficult.

I was told carbonated beverages are a BIG, BIG, BIG NO NO! The bubbles can upset our pouches and I was even told that it can expand the pouch.

I think since I had a 2 week pre-op diet I had to do that broke that habbit quickly; and I rarely have the taste for a pop.

I have read that some people let things 'decarbonate' (or go flat) so the bubbles aren't there; but I haven't tried that.

My husband and I have a SodaStream maker at home so if I wanted the taste of pop, I could make something without carbonation, or very, very little amounts of carbonation.

I have heard that it is possible for the carbonation to stretch the pouch causing the band to basically be useless. I do have a friend whose doctor told her that she could drink no more than 10 oz of a light colored soda a day. I have tried a little Dt. Dew, but it made my stomach hurt so no more, besides I just really rather not risk it.

If I were you I would go with what your doctor and nutritionist say, after all they are the experts not us.

well, its up to you if choose to drink or not drink diet soda the dr gave you instructions (suggestions) to help you. i feel it is up to you to follow them since you are going through all the trouble to get this surgery.

that being said, some do drink soda on here and some dont. up to you really. i was like you, i had a IV line hooked to me. i stopped drinking soda the day i started my preop and havent had one since. first 4 or 5 days was hard....but i wanted this surgery and i decided to

give it my all..maybe you should too.

I was banded in 07, I've been drinking loads of caff free SF cola the whole time. But since I jumped back on the wagon recently, I asked my NUT of pop was ok. No. But I could make it flat first. Don't know how I got away with drinking pop for 4 years.

Coke Zero is very good, flat.

So, I know of what you speak, and I wish you luck!

It didnt make me sick but oddly enough it tasted AWFUL! I couldnt believe how bad it tasted. I kbow dribk green tea, smart water, and sometimes a Vitamin water. Mt little fridge at work is well stalked with water. I wish I could say I am dropping tons of wieght, but I am slowly loosibg it the proper way.

I gave up the soda too but it was hard. Maybe two months after getting banded I tried a rum and diet but even that gave me a stomach ache. I did cave one night and took a sip of some rootbeer, but even then I got scared and spit it out...lol

I tried drinking a dr. pepper again, after 5 months of not having one I discovered it does not taste the same. I am happy to be soda free

My doc has absolutely no issues with carbonated drinks.< /p>

Since being banded I have tried to cut out soda whenever I can. Soda makes me feel burpier than i used to feel after drinking it, but no bad reactions to it other than that.

When I was being banded, my roommate in the hospital was in there because her band slipped and she needed a new band. Her stomach actually prolapsed up through the band. She told me it slipped because she was regularly drinking soda and told me to "learn from her mistake and never touch carbonation". She also gained back 40 pounds, too.

I never forget her and or her story. It was enough to scare me out of ever touching carbonation again.

Oh trust me... I don't touch the stuff either, I just think it's incredible how all doctors are different! I wasn't big on soda anyways so to me it's no biggie:)

absolutely not. Carbonation for a bandster can lead to band slippage... It expands your stomach and Why would you risk it? My dr made me promise pre op that I would give up carbonation.

If you're really struggling and really need it maybe try one of those frozen coke/whatever flavor you desire slurpees. They are mainly frozen Water with flavoring. Might have to check the sugar/ calories count but better than the carbonation.

Careful with the slurpees. I used to drink all the time. Most of them have cafein and they are loaded with sugar and calories. There is usually a sugar free option at each 711 but they are usually a little sour. Some are crystal light brands and are totally ok to drink. I am vey sad that I know so much about slurpees but glad I don't drink them anymore. Matter of fact, one slurpees has more calories then I now eat for the day. Ugh.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
